Marion County School Board supports transgender bathroom ban

transgender bathroom ban, transgender, ocala news, marion county, lgbt

Ocala, Florida — In an e-mail, the Marion County School Board confirmed that they will aim to make sure that school bathrooms used by students who claim to be transgender will be based on the biology of a student’s sex instead of their identity.

Marion County Public School Public Relations Officer, Kevin Christian, said, “In other words, if/when this resolution passes, students will use restrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities based on their gender at birth, not the gender with which they identify.”

According  to Christian, four of the five board members support the ban that will prevent transgender students from choosing the bathroom for which they identify.

School board members Carol Ely, Nancy Stacy, Angie Boynton, and Kelly King wanted the resolution to be approved by Tuesday, which would have taken effect on Wednesday.

However, Board Chairman Bobby James did not want to implement resolution. According to officials, he wanted to continue handling the transgender issues on a per-student basis.

School board officials said that the issue will be on the April 26 agenda as an emergency resolution.

What do you think about the ban?

Ocala, Florida — A family’s pet pig is dead after a man sliced its throat with a pocket knife.

Marion County Animals Services released a more than 20-page document, which included graphic photos, which detailed the slaying of the pig.

According to reports, when the family found the pig several months ago, it was in poor health, missing its ears, and near death. The family stated that they had spent countless hours nursing the pig back to health. They told authorities that the pig had since become part of the family.

Authorities said that Jason D. Crosby, 28, arrived at the property where the pig was located and made statements that the “pig needed to put out of its misery.” The pig was asleep on the front porch of the residence.

The owner of the pig then told Crosby to stop talking like that. She told Crosby that the pig was eating, drinking, would play with her dogs, and was very active. She also told Crosby that the pig was “like her child.”

Moments later, the woman went inside the house to tend to her granddaughter.

The woman stated that when she exited the house a short time later, she saw that the pig was gone. She said it had been dragged to the street and had its throat cut.

The woman started yelling at Crosby, who was still standing in the yard, and he left the residence.

A witness told authorities that they saw Crosby hold the pig down, but did not know that Crosby was cutting its throat.

The property owner told authorities that Crosby had been spiraling out of control and spends his spare time drinking. She said sometimes he just “‘snaps’ and becomes a different person.”

Investigators said that Crosby was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Crosby was arrested and charged with Animal Cruelty-Cruel and Unusual Punishment and Pain and Suffering.

He was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.

Veterinarian Dr. Jason Alpert stated that the laceration across the pig’s throat was more than two inches deep. He said the wound was too severe to save the family pet.
