Ocala, Florida — Authorities say a man who blew a .206 during a breathalyzer test had two juvenile children in the car with him.

Jose Velez Maldonado, 29, was driving northbound on South Pine Avenue when a Marion County sheriff’s deputy and an Ocala police officer saw him driving at a high rate of speed.

According to reports, Maldonado attempted to turn west onto State Road 40, but made an improper turn into traffic. It was at that time that a traffic stop was conducted.

Officials said that when they approached the vehicle they could smell alcohol, and that Maldonado’s speech was heavily slurred.

Maldonado also had two juveniles in the car with him — ages three and four.

When asked if he had been drinking, , Maldonado stated, “No.” However, he did state that he had been drunk earlier in the day while watching a fight on TV.

Maldonado failed his roadside sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with DUI with a Person Under 18 in the Vehicle. He was released on a $1,000 bond.

The Department of Children and families was notified about this incident.
