Ocklawaha, Florida — On August 28, 2013, the Marion County Sheriffs received a 911 call from Robin McCumber, telling dispatchers she had done a well check on her neighbor.

Robin stated that she had walked to the neighbor’s house and noticed the door was ajar and that it was covered in blood. Robin told dispatchers that her neighbor was lying on the floor in the back bedroom on his back.

Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Phillip Milton and his trainee, Deputy Jason Hunt, saw a piece of wood lying by the front door and a trail of bloody footprints that led directly to the bedroom.

Officers found the body of Stanley Yassen, 74, lying face up with no clothes on. There was blood on the bedroom floor and the victim was deceased.

Deputies reported that at least some of the injuries had been caused by a knife or other sharp object.

Deputies said Yassen had obviously suffered a horrible, violent, and tragic death.

Sean Yassen, the victim’s son, told investigators that his father had been involved in selling illegal drugs, namely prescription drugs.

On August 29, 2013, just one day after the victim’s body was discovered, an anonymous source told investigators that Yassen had approached him approximately seven days earlier and offered him $1,000 to beat up another individual known to him as “Isaac.” The man stated that Yassen wanted “Isaac” beat up for allegedly breaking into his house.

From this statement, investigators immediately began looking at Isaac Duwayne Sheffield as a person of interest.

On August 29, 2013, at approximately 7:50 p.m., Detective Bobby Levay made contact with an anonymous woman, and she advised him that on August 28, 2013, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., two individuals came to her residence in two separate vehicles. One was a blue Toyota and the other a beige Ford.

According to the woman, Sheffield was driving the blue Toyota. The woman said Sheffield had another individual drive the beige Ford to her home to do some repairs on it. She stated that a short time later, both Sheffield and the other individual left her home in the blue Toyota and left the Ford parked in her yard.

On August 29, 2013, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Sheffield returned to the woman’s residence driving the blue Toyota. The woman told Detective Levay that Sheffield left and returned many times; however, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. he returned and washed the blue Toyota with bleach using her garden hose. When he was done, she said he pulled the beige Ford up into her driveway and washed it with bleach as well. After Sheffield finished washing the beige Ford, he parked it in a secluded area of the property. Sheffield then drove off in the blue Toyota, she told detectives.

On September 5, 2013, Detectives Clint Smith and Bobby Levay responded to Belleview, Florida, to make contact with a person who stated that Sheffield had come to her residence on August 30, 2013, at approximately 7:00 a.m. and told her that he was arguing with his wife and needed to use the phone. She stated that while Sheffield was at her residence he told her that the sheriff’s office was looking for him for the death of Yassen.

On September 6, 2013, Sheffield also told a woman that he was at Yassen’s house three times during the afternoon of the brutal murder. Sheffield told her that he sat down in the house and had a glass of water. She said Sheffield told her that he left the victim’s home and, when he returned, there was blood everywhere. He said that there was blood squirting from Yassen’s neck, so he applied pressure to his neck with a shirt to try and get the bleeding to stop. Sheffield said Yassen died a short time later. Sheffield claimed that he then grabbed the victim’s phone and dialed nine and then one, but hung up before completing the call. She said Sheffield told her that after he hung up the victim’s phone, he left the scene.

The woman told detectives that Sheffield had cuts on his knuckles as well as on his legs. She said that the cuts appeared to be a few days old and that Sheffield had mentioned he needed Neosporin to clean them up.

Detectives say that Sheffield also told the woman’s roommate that he smoked marijuana with Yassen on the day of the murder. She said Sheffield told her that he didn’t complete the call to ‘911’ because he didn’t want to be blamed for anything. Sheffield also told her he burned the shoes he was wearing because they were too big for him; however, detectives believe if the shoes were burned it was done to conceal evidence.

Detectives Clint Smith and Bobby Levay searched the woman’s home where Sheffield had stayed for a few days, but Sheffield left when he learned detectives were coming. Detectives recovered two bags of clothes, a wallet with a driver’s license, the tube of Neosporin, and burnt items from a burn pile. All of the items belonged to Sheffield and were put into evidence.

On September 5, 2013, detectives received a tip claiming that Sheffield was headed toward Georgia. Family members in Georgia said they were aware of the investigation in Marion County and advised that Sheffield was heading in their direction to come and stay with them.

Detectives then made contact with Captain Page of the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia to advise him of the situation, and that Sheffield was headed toward a residence in their jurisdiction. Captain Page told detectives that in light of the seriousness of the investigation, and the fact that Sheffield was the main person of interest in the murder, that he would conduct surveillance on the residence.

While conducting surveillance of the area, they observed a maroon vehicle traveling in the direction of the residence, at which time they conducted a felony traffic stop. Sheffield was in possession of prescription narcotics without a prescription and was taken into custody immediately. The driver, Mary Lee, was also arrested for Possession of a Prescription Narcotic without a Prescription.

Mary Lee is the cousin of Sheffield.

Investigators from Marion County then drove to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and made contact with the lead investigator working the case.

Warrants were obtained by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in order to obtain DNA from Sheffield as well as a warrant to search his vehicle.

Upon executing the warrant, they found a knife, clothing, cell phone, latex gloves, and a stick in the car.

During an interview with Mary, she told investigators that while they were on their way to Georgia, Sheffield had reached into the back seat and grabbed a white plastic bag. She stated that the bag contained floor mats and that Sheffield had thrown them out the window. Mary told investigators that she thought the floor mats came from the vehicles that Sheffield bleached just days prior to leaving for Georgia. She also told investigators that the knife did not belong to her. Mary claimed that Sheffield told her that he was scared that there would be DNA in the cars and that is why he bleached them.

In an interview with Sheffield, he told detectives that a guy named “Mike” came to Yassen’s home and that he was driving a pick-up truck. Sheffield said he did not know if that was his real name. When detectives asked Sheffield if he returned to the residence after he had left, he said he did not want to answer that question. Sheffield then stated, “Stanley was just fine, perfectly fine when I left the house.”

On September 6, 2013, DNA analysis showed that the victim’s blood was present on the passenger side front door of the beige Ford; the vehicle in which Sheffield admitted to driving to the victim’s home.

The autopsy also confirmed that Yassen had been stabbed multiple times with a sharp object.

Officials said this case was a success because of the diligence of the investigators and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office willingness to work with the MCSO to get Sheffield off the street before he claimed another victim.

Investigators believe this all started because Sheffield wanted to rob Yassen of his prescription narcotics.

Sheffield will be extradited back to Marion County, at which time he will be charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder.

Two Million Bikers To Washington D.C. Rally

    Two Million Bikers To D.C.

Thousands of bikers road through our Nations Capitol today in memory of that tragic day, 12 years ago, on September 11, 2001, when the United States was attacked by a group of cowards who thought they could break America’s patriotic streak.

Sadly, something as spectacular as the ‘Two Million Biker Ride’, has been over shadowed on news stations by the Zimmerman domestic dispute.

The ride which Washington denied a permit for, happened on the same day of the “Million Muslim March”.

The bikers riding with the group “Two Million Bikers To D.C.” turned up in the thousands, over shadowing the “Million Muslim March” by a land slide. Officials reported that only a hand full of people showed up for the Muslim planned event.

The Nation Park Service denied the biker group a permit, claiming it would disrupt traffic and cause mass congestion therefore making D.C. residents angry. However D.C. residents proved the Nation Park Service wrong during the massive event. Turns out D.C. residents were ‘revved’ up over the event, some calling it the most patriotic event they have ever seen.

“I could stay here for half an hour; I don’t care; this is America,” said Santana Sensenna while stuck in the traffic. Most residents that were stuck in traffic exited their vehicles to snap photos and wave the bikers on.

And although their numbers didn’t quite reach two million as their title suggests, there were literally thousands that turned up for the event. The organizer Ms. Bee says they want this to be an annual event and maybe next time The National Park Service will not deny them their right to have a permit.

    iPhone 5C Release

    0

buystrip_productToday Apple unveiled its new iPhone 5C. Up until recently the phone has just been a rumor.

The new iPhone 5C is reportedly going to be cheaper than previous releases of the iPhone. The reduction in price is undoubtedly an attempt by Apple to try and regain lost ground to the superior Samsung Galaxy series of smart phones.

The iPhone 5C, which is made of plastic, starts at $99 for the 16GB version or $199 for 32GB, a two year contract is required in order to get the pricing.

The new 5C will also have more design features as well as upgraded technology features.

The 5C will be available in multiple colors, contain Apple’s A6 chip, and an eight megapixel camera. Claims are the phone is 31 percent faster than the previous iPhone release.

While the new features, upgrades, and color choices look good on paper, critics say different colors and lower price will not make up for the lacking technology. Technology that is behind Samsung’s Galaxy line.

Experts say that Apple has fallen over the past few quarters, falling to its lowest level in three years.

The iPhone 5C will be available in stores on September 20, 2013.

We want to know, are you pro-iPhone or pro-Samsung Galaxy?

Man Points Bow And Arrow At A Deputy

Richard Hummel Points Bow at deputy
    Richard Hummel [Mugshot]
Marion County, Florida — On September 7, 2013, Deputy Writer responded to a call at 15545 NE 148 Ter. Rd. in Ft McCoy, after Richard Hummel , 53, dialed 911.

Hummel told 911 dispatchers that he was having thoughts of suicide and would like to be taken to the Centers for help.

Deputy Writer arrived at the home shortly after the call came in. Upon arriving, deputy Writer observed Hummel sitting on the front porch. After spotting the Deputy, Hummel stood up and retreated into his house closing the door behind him.

Deputy Writer approached the front door and made multiple attempts to try and get Hummel to come to the door with no response. Writer, at that point decided to go around to the back of the home in an attempt to make contact with the subject.

Writer could in fact see Hummel through the window in the back door and Writer motioned for Hummel as well as called his name in an attempt to get him to answer the door. Hummel, at that time retreated further into the home out of the site of officer Writer.

Writer attempted to call the phone inside the residence and continued to yell through the window with no response from Hummel.

Additional units arrived on the scene in order to assist Writer.

After several hours of failed attempts to make contact with Hummel, Sergeant Padgett saw Hummel through a back window of the home pick up a bow and arrow, and pace around the inside of the house with it.

Hummel then walked out the back door of the residence and made contact with deputy Willis. Deputy Willis instructed Hummel several times to drop the bow and arrow and talk to them.

In a thoughtless move by Hummel, he raised the bow, pointed it at Willis and said , “You have two seconds to get off my property.”

Hummel drew the bow back in the firing position at which time deputy Swarbrick fired a non-lethal bean bag round striking Hummel. Hummel then turned and deputy Swarbrick fired another bean bag round causing him to drop the bow and arrow.

Hummel retreated inside his home and deputies at that time arrested him.

Hummel was treated for his non-lethal injuries and during his treatment by medics he said, “I never meant to shoot the deputy, I just wanted to scare him.”

Hummel was transported to the Marion County jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.

He is being charged with Assault or Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Firefighter, EMT, ETC.

Marion County Commissioners Admit They Did Not Comply With State Law Rejecting Blair’s Request

    Sheriff Chris Blair marion county,ocala
    Sheriff Chris Blair

Marion County, Florida — It appears the county tried to pull the wool over Sheriff Blair’s eyes.

The commission recently snubbed Blair, turning his budget proposal down.

County Commission Chairwoman Kathy Bryant and County Attorney Guy Minter confirmed that the commission’s rejection of Blair’s request did not comply with a state law that grants the sheriff authority to control part of his budget without the board’s consent.

“While we agreed it would be best to wait, legally we’re bound to allow the sheriff to do what he wants to do,” Bryant explained.

Bryant recently informed Blair about the possible reversal, and she plans to suggest the denial be reversed at the September 17, 2013 Board of Commissioners meeting.

If other commissioners agree the rejection didn’t comply with state law Blair could receive nearly $500,000 toward the purchase of new vehicles and possibly other need items for the Sheriff’s Office.

When Ocala Post asked Blair how he felt about the news and he said,

The Sheriff’s office is elated that the items were put back on the agenda to be considered. These are needed to support our need concerning replacement vehicles and unfounded liabilities.”

    The Truth About The Budget

Once Again No Charges For George Zimmerman

    0

Lake Mary, Florida — Shellie Zimmerman dialed 911 claiming George Zimmerman was threatening to shoot her.

Police say that based on video surveillance footage from inside the house charges will not be filed. Investigators say the surveillance system was set up inside the home after George Zimmerman was acquitted of shooting and killing Trayvon Martin.

Shellie Zimmerman told 911 operators George Zimmerman did have a gun and he was going to shoot her and her father, however Officer Hudson now says no one ever saw a gun nor was a gun recovered.

George Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara says, “there was absolutely no threat with any firearm whatsoever.” O’Mara goes on to say that he knows the 911 tapes suggest that through Shellie Zimmerman’s account of the situation, but says she made those statements under the stress and emotion of the situation.

O’Mara confirms there may have been some pushing and shoving due to the divorce situation and says it is unfortunate that so many divorces start out in the manner the Zimmerman’s divorce has. O’Mara said, “I am grateful this situation didn’t cause any injuries to anybody whatsoever.”

Shellie Zimmerman says she will not peruse any charges against George Zimmerman.

    George Zimmerman Being Questioned

Lake Mary, Florida — Shellie Zimmerman has recently taken criticism from the public claiming she is out for the money George Zimmerman stands to gain in a lawsuit filed against NBC and Al Sharpton for editing 911 tapes during the Zimmerman Trail involving the death of Trayvon Martin. Many believe Shellie Zimmerman is purposely trying to create problems for George Zimmerman to get a reaction out of him in order to have him put behind bars. Shellie Zimmerman filed divorce papers and is demanding she be named beneficiary of his finances if anything happens to him even after she divorces him.

George Zimmerman was taken into custody by Lake Mary police after a dispute between his estranged wife Shellie Zimmerman and her father.

Later he was released from ‘investigative detention’ and is free to leave the scene at any time.

Police say George Zimmerman did not request his attorney and is fully cooperating with investigators, however George Zimmerman’s attorney was notified of the incident and his attorney did arrive on the scene at 4:25 p.m.

Shellie Zimmerman and her father have both requested their attorney to be present and their attorneys are in fact on the scene.

Lake Mary Police officer Zack Hudson says the incident is being investigated as a domestic dispute and it’s currently under investigation.

Officer Hudson says the aggressor is not yet known and that is the reason they are still investigating. He says every detail has to be investigated from A-Z.

The 911 call went out as George Zimmerman was threatening Shellie and her father with a firearm, however officers again at this time are not specifically stating they did locate a weapon. In the 911 Call Shellie Zimmerman alleges that George Zimmerman punched her father in the face. Shellie Zimmerman in the 911 call says George Zimmerman constantly had his hand on his gun and was threatening to shoot her and her father.

The Fire Department was called to the scene however all parties declined to be transported to the hospital. At this time it is unclear if someone was actually injured during the altercation.

Police say they are investigating a possible battery between George Zimmerman and Shellie’s father but could not go into further detail citing it is an open investigation.

If the investigation does reveal that George Zimmerman did commit aggravated battery while brandishing a weapon, it could carry a mandatory sentence and George Zimmerman could find himself back in front of a jury.

All of the details have not yet been released.

This is a developing story. Check back for further details.

Sheriff Chris Blair wants you to know the truth about the budget

    3

    Sheriff Chris Blair marion county,ocala
    Sheriff Chris Blair

Ocala, Florida — On Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., there will be a ribbon cutting at the CNG fuel station, located at 3230 SE Maricamp Road.

This will be the first CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) station in Marion County making that a total of eight in the State.

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners is leading the way to energy independence, saving taxpayer dollars and reducing operating costs through the use of CNG,” said County Commission Vice Chairman Carl Zalak III. This initiative puts Marion County ahead of the other counties in north central Florida and even the nation when it comes to promoting American energy that is affordable and abundant.”

The grand opening of this station is coming just two days before the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting on September 12, 2013 at 7 p.m., where citizens of Marion County are expected to express their concerns to the Board of Commissioners for their lack of positive response to Sheriff Blair’s budget proposal.

A proposal that is aimed at keeping the citizens of Marion County Safe.

Many Marion County residents are confused as to why the CNG station seems to be a bigger concern than public safety.

Ocala Post recently e-mailed Sheriff Chris Blair in regard to his budget. Blair is hoping the public as well as County Commissioners can educate themselves and fully understand the consequences of not granting the budget requests for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

It is no secret that citizens have mixed feelings toward law enforcement, the topic is usually swept under the rug and lost in the political agenda of elected officials. Why hide it? As a community, it should be an open discussion. Blair said he is more than willing to listen to the citizens of Marion County. Sheriff Blair said, “One of my many goals as Sheriff, is to build a better relationship with residents.” After all, community policing greatly depends on the relationship between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Blair said, “Do not let an experience you might have had with one deputy hinder your opinion of the sheriff’s department as a whole. To do so would not be fair to yourself, the community, or the sheriff’s office.”

If the budget continues down the current path, the crime in Marion County will with certainty, get worse.

Citizens need to make it personal and take control of the situation. Ask yourself, can you protect your family if deputies are 45 minutes away from your home during a home invasion? Criminals often prey on the helpless. The Department of Justice conducted a survey among prison inmates, and researcher Gary Kleck proved that 92 percent of criminal attacks are against citizens that are helpless, or for some reason cannot defend themselves. Criminals are cowards, they will always prey on the weak.

Marion Oaks and Silver Springs Shores are two areas in Marion County overridden with crime, despite the glamorous commercials being pushed by the Deltona Corporation depicting Marion Oaks as it looked 30 years ago.

Blair has indicated that the MCSO has 50 percent fewer deputies per 1,000 residents than our neighboring comparable counties.

Look at the numbers! Marion Oaks alone has roughly 35,000 residents including undocumented residents. At any given time, there might only be one deputy patrolling the entire area of Marion Oaks. One Deputy for 35,000 people spread over a large area with many secluded areas within it.

From the entrance of Marion Oaks straight down Marion Oaks Boulevard is roughly a 10 mile stretch of road, and that is just one street. Imagine how much area actually needs to be covered in Marion Oaks.

Blair said the lack of deputies in Marion Oaks is not because he does not care about the area, it is not political, it is solely the lack of education for the members of the Marion County Board of Commissioners to increase the budget. An increased budget could mean more deputies. Honest residents of Marion Oaks need to be aware of the situation. Residents need to know the truth. Do not be blinded by political agenda.

Silver Springs Shores has roughly 10,000 to 15,000 residents including undocumented residents. While the population of SSS is lower than that of Marion Oaks, the crime rate is still high, and also in need of more deputies patrolling the area. Again, deputies are spread too thin due to the lack of budget to hire more deputies.

How many times have you heard someone say “Where’s a cop when you need one?” Well, they are spread thin due to lack of funds, therefore they cannot possibly be everywhere at once.

According to the sheriff’s office, the budget is not only about hiring deputies to provide more protection for the community, but also about officer safety. Sheriff Blair said officers need gear to be more proficient and protect themselves from the bad guys in the line of duty. Officers are human, not bullet proof or faster than a speeding bullet. Officers have wives, children, grandmothers, moms, and dads. If you have someone in your family that works as a police officer, deputy, or in the military; you know the importance of protective gear. No one wants that 2 a.m. call, or visit at the door from an officer with news that their loved one has been killed in the line of duty; especially if it was an increase of budget that could have saved their life.

Blair said, My budget is not a wish list, and since taking office, I have personally met with each of the five commissioners to discuss these deficiencies. My commitment will continue to be to protect you and your family by providing top-notch law enforcement within our community and to continue taking criminals off the streets, thereby making our community a safer place to live and do business.”

Blair went on to say, “My budget asks for a small portion of what is needed to move this agency back to a position this community deserves, and I cannot, in good faith, allow my deputies and corrections officers to continue placing their lives on the line each day without doing everything in my power to ensure that they have the resources needed to effectively protect this community and each other.”

Marion County Resident Justin Davis said, “Excellent! At least one of our elected officials is not playing politics with our community’s safety!”

Daniel Rivera said, Lack of man power increased the injuries, stress, and illness at my old department. I had to teach myself to work like three officers till I burned out. The county will spend more money on overtime, and therapy!”

Residents are starting to see the big picture, but some are not convinced, most likely due to lack of information in regards to the budget.

Blair is hoping to change [that] and hopes that Marion County residents will see through the politics and voice their opinions. “The entire community needs to come together and help our Sheriff’s Department win this battle,” Sheriff Blair said.

Be sure to attend the Marion County Board of Commissioner meeting on Thursday September 12, 2013 at 7 p.m., in the McPherson complex, 503 SE 25th Avenue.

Blair said he understands the importance of the budget more than anyone.

Blair has taken politics out of the equation, and in a move rarely seen by an elected official, he is putting community and employees first.

    In Chris Blair’s Words

“Over the past several months, there has been much talk about the budget I presented for the 2013-14 fiscal year on behalf of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Upon taking office in January, my staff, along with a 70-member committee comprised of individuals from outside the agency, performed a thorough analysis of the state of the Sheriff’s Office. That review uncovered an agency in crisis, with deputy sheriffs that are under-manned, underpaid and ill-equipped to provide the level of law enforcement service our community needs and deserves.

As the new sheriff, my first budget seeks to begin addressing these issues following years of agency decay, which is the result of continuous budget cuts that have shaved $8 million dollars and 166 crucial jobs from the Sheriff’s Office since 2007.

Recently, my staff compared our Sheriff’s Office with sheriff’s offices from counties that are comparable to Marion County in terms of population and income. That study showed that our agency has more than 50 percent fewer deputies per 1,000 residents than our comparable counties and needs at least 170 new deputies.

This lack of manpower not only jeopardizes the safety of my deputies and the public when backup cannot timely arrive to assist a deputy, or a call cannot be timely responded to, but it also adversely affects the agency’s ability to assist in other public safety functions with Fire Rescue. For example, during the last year, there have been over 500 calls for assistance to Fire Rescue due to either a fire or other emergency which involved some type of domestic disturbance. In those cases, it is Fire Rescue’s protocol to stand by, away from the residence, until the property can be cleared by a deputy sheriff.

However, there have been multiple instances where Fire Rescue has had to wait 20-40 minutes for a deputy to arrive to clear the scene due to a lack of deputies. This delay places those victims at further risk and increases liability to the sheriff, the County Commission and the taxpayers.

My budget only seeks funding for 20 of these needed deputy positions as the first step of a multi-year re-staffing plan.

Furthermore, we are losing, and failing to attract, quality deputies because our starting salary is approximately $9,000 less than comparable counties. In fact, the Sheriff’s Office received minimal interest from graduates of the most recent College of Central Florida police recruit class due to the low starting pay of our deputies. This is unacceptable and, should it be allowed to continue, will reap negative consequences on this community for decades to come. My budget requests funding for an increase in starting deputy pay of $1,300 per year to allow us to attract and hire quality deputy sheriffs.

In addition, our fleet is badly aged due to lack of funding to replace patrol vehicles. In fact, if our agency used the same vehicle replacement scorecard utilized by the county, 43.4 percent of our vehicles — 245 total — would be replaced due to having more than 150,000 miles on them.

My budget requests just 50 new vehicles. However, just this past week, I requested the County Commission’s consent to move money that was already budgeted to the Sheriff’s Office for this budget year so that I could purchase 25 new vehicles, and thereby lower my budget request for next year. However, the commission denied that request.

Meanwhile, the county’s proposed budget for this upcoming year contains funding for the purchase of $4 million in new county vehicles, but the commission has been unwilling to consent to my request for funding to add any new vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office.

Undoubtedly, this community has been through a significant recession; however, to say that the impact of the recession requires the Sheriff’s Office to continue cutting or flat-lining its budget is misleading. For example, over the past decade, the budget for Marion County Fire/EMS has increased at an average annual rate of 17 percent per year while the budget for the Sheriff’s Office has increased just 1.9 percent per year, on average, over that time. In fact, the Sheriff’s Office budget is $6 million less than it was in fiscal year 2006-07, before the recession, while the Fire/EMS budget is $18 million more. While I wholeheartedly endorse the funding for Fire/EMS, I believe that law enforcement deserves the same level of priority from the commission.

Over the past several years, other county departments also experienced similar, or greater, growth. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office budget has decreased during that same time from 20 percent of the overall county budget to just 12.8 percent. These figures show that over the past several years, funding for the Sheriff’s Office has become less of a priority to the county while funding for other county departments has become a higher priority.

The dilution in the Sheriff’s Office percentage of the overall county budget, combined with the increases in the budgets of other county departments, makes clear it is possible for the county to meet the budget needs of the Sheriff’s Office by reallocating its overall budget, or utilizing a portion of its excessive reserves, to give some priority to law enforcement without raising taxes.

My budget is not a wish list, and since taking office, I have personally met with each of the five commissioners to discuss these deficiencies. My commitment will continue to be to protect you and your family by providing top-notch law enforcement within our community and to continue taking criminals off the streets, thereby making our community a safer place to live and do business. My budget asks for a small portion of what is needed to move this agency back to a position this community deserves, and I cannot, in good faith, allow my deputies and corrections officers to continue placing their lives on the line each day without doing everything in my power to ensure that they have the resources needed to effectively protect this community and each other.”

Police say an anonymous tip led them to the Black Ford Explorer the teens had driven from Michigan.

The two teens ran away on August 26, 2013, after Jayden’s mom told her she could no longer date Braxton. The two teens have been dating and according to the parents of both teens, the relationship had gotten quite serious. To serious for teens, the parents said.

Jayden had left a note for her mom on her bedroom mirror written in lipstick that read, “I love you so much. Stay happy and beautiful.”

Jayden had told her mom that “she was in love with Braxton and that she felt like she could not live without him.” Jayden’s mom told her that she no longer approved of the relationship.

Chicago Police said the two had been living in their vehicle since driving from Michigan. The Two were going to the local Starbucks and enjoying Chicago’s lakefront view, police said.

Neither of the teens have been in trouble with the law and both are reportedly good students that were just inseparable.

Both families will have to take the drive to Chicago and pick their children up from the police station.

Ocala, Florida — Another teacher has been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a teen.

Christopher Votos, 58, was arrested at Fort King Middle School and suspended from his teacher’s aide job.

Votos is accused of sending inappropriate texts to a 15-year-old girl. The teen claims that she has been texting Votos for more than a year. The teen says at one point texts were exchanged in which they were supposed to meet for sex; she says they never did.

The teen told investigators that she and Votos kissed and that Votos purchased gifts for her. She claims he bought her MP3 players and other expensive gifts during their relationship which Votos later admitted to.

He told detectives that the teen was inappropriate with him in way of always hanging on him and telling him personal things about her life. He claims he was only texting her back to see who was on the other side of the texts, stating he would not have slept with her because he would have felt bad. He also says the teen told him she loved him.

Votos’s wife says she blames the teen because she is a stalker and has been stalking her husband.

Votos was booked into the Marion County Jail on Friday and was being held on a $5,000 bond. He was released on that bond on Saturday.

He is charged with Obscene Communication-Use of Computer to Seduce, Solicit, or Lure a Child.

    Former Marine Wen Jones

Juno Beach, Florida — A former marine was severely beaten after he tried to save a teen from being attacked by three wannabe tough guys.

Witnesses told police that the three men had been harassing a 14-year-old boy and his friends all day, making racial comments, and kicking sand on them.

Finally, the 14-year- boy’s father, Leroy Wright, told them they needed to leave the beach, and he said that’s when they began threatening him.

“I see that these guys were not backing down, and I literally had to keep them at bay, and I looked up and here was Mr. Jones,” said Wright.

Wen Jones, a slightly built former marine, and father of two tried to step in and save the young boy as the three men were attacking him, Jones’ 43, asked the trio to break it up.

Instead of the men who were also slightly built walking away, they immediately began throwing punches.

As Jones struggled with the largest attacker, another one began hitting him on the back of the head, and a third jumped in and began repeatedly punching and kicking him, eventually knocking him unconscious. During the fight Jones’s orbital bone under his eye was fractured.

After Jones was beaten unconscious, the three men fled, but witnesses took down their license plate numbers, and police tracked them down.

The three men were initially charged with misdemeanor battery but after police learned of the severe injuries Jones sustained, they upgraded the charges to felony battery.

When asked if he would do it again, Jones replied “yes”.

NSA Broke Encryption Violating Americans Privacy Rights And HIPPA Laws

    0

    obama,spies,nsa,ocala
    Is The NSA Watching?

The latest document to emerge in the Edward Snowden scandal is a disturbing one.

The document revealed that the NSA has secretly succeeded in cracking most encryption much of the world’s population uses to keep personal information safe online.

The document shows that the NSA has been working alongside of the UK equivalent, Government Communications Headquarters, known as GCHQ, to unscramble encoding that protects everything people do online including e-mails, personal banking, and medical records; breaking into medical records also violates HIPPA laws.

The most disturbing part of the document specifically mentions the NSA’s and the GCHQ’s targets.

The memo states,” GCHW has been working to find ways into the encrypted data sent via four big internet firms, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Microsoft’s Hotmail.”

The reports show that the NSA worked to develop more covert ways of unscrambling online data after losing a public battle in the 1990’s to insert a government “back door” into all programming.

Mikko Hypponen, a security expert, believes that this document is the most important document released by Snowden to date.

“It may not have gained as many headlines as some of his other stories, because most people don’t understand how crypto systems work. If indeed U.S intelligence does indeed have such a wide range of systems, then I’m surprised,” he told CNN.

Crypto encryption is relevant to everyday applications that everyone uses, for example in communications and transactions, he said. “Now we learn that the foundation of web security has been compromised.”

Hypponen, the chief research officer for F-Secure, said he believes the NSA and GCHQ had probably cracked the encryption by having moles or spies apply for jobs in key companies at key locations. “Any major service provider must have sizable amounts of moles from intelligence agencies. Remember that the NSA has 35,000 people working for it,” he said.

Experts say Americans should be very concerned and outraged. Reports say that Americans need to make their voices known, urging, do not just sit back and hope the problem will go away.

Our chief in command defends the NSA. Last month in an interview Obama defended the NSA’s actions by saying,

I am confident no one at the NSA is trying to abuse this program or listen in on people’s e-mail.”

The president chalked much of the concern with domestic snooping on changes in technology by placing the blame on our technology. Obama blames our technology for not having safeguards against the NSA.

“I think there are legitimate concerns that people have that technology is moving so quick”, Obama said. “What I recognize is that we’re going to have to continue to improve the safeguards and as technology moves forward, that means that we may be able to build technologies that give people more assurance.”

Experts say that Obama is showing no regard for the law by continuously defending the NSA and by allowing them to continue to violate American’s right to privacy.

motrin_Recall Alert — September 6, 2013 – McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. (“McNeil”) is voluntarily recalling at the retail level three lots, approximately 200,000 bottles, of Concentrated MOTRIN® Infants’ Drops Original Berry Flavor 1/2 fl oz bottles distributed in the United States (see full product list below). This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). McNeil is asking retailers to remove the affected lots from store shelves, and is asking consumers to stop using and dispose of any product they may have that is included in this recall.

After releasing these three lots of Concentrated MOTRIN® Infants’ Drops Original Berry Flavor 1/2 fl oz into the market, tiny plastic particles (approximately 1 mm in size or about the size of a poppy seed) were identified in a different product lot during manufacturing. This lot was not released to the market. It was determined that the particles originated in a shipment from a third party supplier of ibuprofen, the active ingredient in Concentrated MOTRIN® Infants’ Drops Original Berry Flavor 1/2 fl oz. Out of an abundance of caution, McNeil is voluntarily recalling the three lots released to the market made with the same batch of active ingredient.

McNeil has worked with the third party to ensure that corrective measures are currently in place and are effective. The potential for adverse medical events related to the reason for this recall is not likely. Concentrated Infants’ MOTRIN® Drops Dye-Free Berry Flavor 1 fl oz is not included in this recall. Children’s or Adult MOTRIN® products are not included in this recall.

Adverse events that may be related to the use of this product may be reported to U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting Program either online, by regular mail or by fax:

Polliwog owner, Michael Tarver, still denies allegations

Ocala, Florida — The allegations continue to stack up against Michael Tarver, the owner, and operator of Polliwog Dental.

The latest developments in the case do not really surprise parents, whose children have attended the pediatric dentistry.

Ivy Castillo, a parent who has taken her five-year-old to the dentistry said, I have experienced first-hand the ‘Dr. Jekyll’ side of ‘Doctor’ Mike.” Adding, “My son told me a couple days later that during this routine cleaning, they made him drink the ‘icky Spiderman juice’, which I have come to learn was their sedative to ‘control’ my child.”

Ocala Post has been flooded with horrifying stories of less than mediocre dental care provided by Tarver.

In an E-mail we received from an employee who does not want to be identified, she wrote, “Dr. Mikes wife is not any better. She was there when her husband man-handled those kids.” She went on to write, “I can understand a wife wanting to stand by her husband, but this is ridiculous.”

One parent, who also does not want to be identified in order to protect her children wrote:

“All 4 of my children went to Polliwog because they took Medicaid. From the get go the staff was rude and unorganized. The biggest issue was my six-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter at the time, came home with big cheek bruises and unwarranted work done. My son who has healthy teeth, was told every time I went he needed fillings. It’s funny but my two older girls (12 & 15) never had issues, I think because they were old enough to speak up or tell on them. Every time my kids went for any work, even a cleaning they told me they would need to give them the happy juice. I am so glad someone finally listened to all of us!”

The allegations against Tarver range from, placing his hands over children’s noses and mouths, overdosing children with the kiddie cocktail“, altering medical records, to actually inflicting physical injuries upon young children.

Tarver continually maintains he is innocent, using Medicaid parents as an escape goat by claiming their children are just misbehaved.

Tarver was questioned by authorities in regards to allegations that he put his hands over a child’s nose and mouth, causing the child to lose consciousness. Tarver’s response again deflected to the child’s behavior. Tarver stated he remembered the “extremely misbehaved” child, passing blame on to the small child.

Many e-mails received by Ocala Post have asked the same question: Why did it take so long for Tarver to be caught?

One e-mail thanked Ocala Post for covering the story and not being afraid to reveal the truth.

In a Facebook message from one of Ocala’s Word of Mouth admins’, she wrote,

As an admin of Ocala’s Word of Mouth, I want to thank you for following this story!!! Kelli Fuqua Hart started this page three years ago so that residents of Ocala, Florida could stay informed about businesses in this area. This is proof positive that word of mouth amongst citizens is very effective. My heart goes out to the children and parents that have had to experience such things. I have great hope that the truth will come out in the investigation of Michael Tarver and no other children will be effected in such a manner as stated in all of the allegations. Thank you again, Ocala Post, for keeping an eye on our community.”

Ocala Post first wrote about Michael Tarver after he lashed out at Medicaid parents on Ocala’s Word of Mouth.

The question, however, still remains as to why authorities waited so long to respond to the allegations.

The DEA has confirmed what many parents already suspected; that the visit from the DEA back in July was all but “routine.” Tarver claimed it was a “routine audit,” however, the DEA said they served an inspection warrant and did remove files from the office for their investigation.

One parent wrote to Ocala Post, I have to wonder what Tarver’s obsession with sedating and tying down children was. It’s almost like he enjoyed it. His personality is that of an egotistical, arrogant, narcissist. I hope he does not have children of his own and his wife should be ashamed of herself.”

Among the serious allegations of child abuse, are the multiple allegations from parents claiming Michael Tarver overbilled Medicaid. Parents insist that Tarver sometimes billed Medicaid for procedures that did not take place, and performed procedures that were not warranted.

Ocala Post reached out to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to find out if Tarver is being investigated for Medicaid fraud on top of the child abuse allegations. Press Secretary Shelisha Coleman wrote, We cannot confirm or deny whether we have an open audit or investigation on a particular provider.”

Ocala Post also reached out to the FDLE, asking them if criminal charges will be filed against Michael Tarver. Again, FDLE would not confirm or deny whether an open criminal investigation is being conducted.

In many of Tarver’s rants toward parents in Ocala, he claims he is the only dentist that is willing to do the job he is doing for Medicaid patients.

One parent said, “Dr. Mike’s attitude clearly shows he looks down on the parents who come to his office that are on Medicaid. He thinks just because he has a new Porsche parked out back that he has the right to think he is better than us.”

Michael Tarver said he has hired an attorney and plans to fight the suspension of his license.

Today, the parking lot was empty and no employees were inside. Whether or not Tarver’s wife will actually keep the office open remains unknown, although she originally claimed she would continue to run the practice.

Ocala Post has been investigating this story with great diligence. After Tarver lashed out at parents by trying to make them feel bad for using Medicaid, claiming he was the only office that would accept it, Ocala Post began to compile a list with Medicaid providers.

Medicaid Provider List Ocala Post did not receive any compensation for listing any of the businesses in the lists Ocala Post has compiled.

If you feel you have been a victim of Medicaid fraud contact AHCA.

If you feel your child was abused contact FSFN.

Many residents told Ocala Post the abuse that children have endured by Michael Tarver should have never happened. Had Florida enforced laws keeping dentists from prohibiting parents in procedure rooms with their children, this would have been avoided. Parents say laws need to be put in place to protect their children.

Parents can contact the Florida Senate to express their concerns. Remember, the more parents that take action the harder it will be for the Senate to ignore the issue.

Two of the photos attached to this article was e-mailed to Ocala Post. Thank you to the parent who shared them. In a community that feels taken advantage of by someone that they trusted with their children, it is nice to see everyone come together.

Polliwog Dental Business Owner Lashes Out At Medicaid Parents

I Killed A Man: shocking drunk driving confession, no arrest made yet

Columbus, Ohio — A man who felt so guilty about killing a man while drunk driving, made a drunk driving confession video, and uploaded it to YouTube. He said “I’m willing to take full responsibility.”

On June 22, 2013, Matthew Cordle hit and killed Vincent Canzani. Police did not make any arrests in the drunk driving accident and had not mentioned any names during recent press conferences.

In June, police said Canzani died at the scene after his Jeep was struck on Interstate 670.

The three minute video by Cordle is chilling, and after the video was released on September 3, 2013, Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien said he was the suspect all along. Ohio residents do not believe the police knew anything at all. Residents asked, “If he was a suspect since June, why hadn’t he been questioned at all?” Residents feel authorities were trying to save face by claiming they knew.

    Matthew Cordle

“My name is Matthew Cordle, and on June 22, 2013, I hit and killed Vincent Canzani,” he said in the video. This video will act as my confession.”

Cordle said in the video that he “made a mistake” when he decided to drive his truck home after “drinking really heavily” and hit the other car, killing 61-year-old Canzani, of suburban Columbus, Ohio.

The video is blurred, and his voice distorted as he described bar hopping, depression, and using alcohol to cope.

“When I get charged, I’ll plead guilty and take full responsibility for everything I’ve done to Vincent and his family,” Cordle said.

Defense attorney George Breitmayer III said the video is a strong testament” to Cordle’s character. He said Cordle intends to cooperate with prosecutors.

We will not give away the entire video, there is a unexpected turn in the video by Matthew Cordle that you won’t want to miss.

Sanford Police Officer Involved With Drug Dealer

    Tillman Taylor Littles-Irvin

Two people have been arrested by the DEA after a five-month-long investigation into a drug trafficking ring that spread into two different counties in Central Florida.

Damieian Troviero Tillman, 40, of Lake Mary, and 33-year-old Elizabeth Ann Taylor of Casselberry, were both arrested Thursday after the DEA says the pair had worked together for the purpose of selling prescription pills.

According to officials, from June to August 2013, Tillman allegedly sold approximately 240 hydromorphone pills to an undercover agent on four separate occasions. Also, Taylor brokered numerous illicit drug transactions between Tillman and her customers in the Lake County area, said officials.

Tillman was charged with conspiracy to traffic hydromorphone, trafficking hydromorphone, possession of conveyance used for the sale of controlled substances, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. Taylor is charged with conspiracy to traffic hydromorphone.

However, Tillman and Taylor are not the only ones in hot water over the investigation. Tillman’s girlfriend, better known as Sergeant Cynthia Littles-Irvin of the Sanford Police Department, has been placed on administrative leave following the arrests due to the fact that she is romantically involved with Tillman.

A spokesperson for the Sanford Police department, Shannon Cordingly, says that the DEA contacted Sanford police to let them know one of their sergeants was in a relationship and living with the target of a drug trafficking investigation.

Although the police sergeant has yet to be charged with any involvement in the DEA’s investigation, Sanford officials said they do not want to risk any problems given the close relationship between the sergeant and the suspect.

“We’d rather be safe than sorry, it is in the best interest of the community she is placed on leave,” said Cordingly.

An internal investigation will be performed on Sergeant Littles-Irvin to determine whether or not she was aware of her boyfriend’s actions and, to determine if she was involved in the trafficking.

Sergeant Cynthia Littles-Irvin has served with the Sanford Police Department for the past 15 years.

    Smart Gear Or Not

    Samsung Galaxy Gear

Technology is constantly making leaps and bounds. And when it comes to smart products, Samsung leads the pack. Not even the iPhone can compete.

Remember when everyone wanted the watch from the ‘Night Rider’ that David Hasselhoff wore or the Dick Tracy watch?

Well envy no more. Samsung has redeveloped their new Galaxy Gear smart-watch. Samsung is hoping to make it the next must have product.

Samsung revealed the watch along with its new Note 3 smart-phone on Wedensday in Berlin.

The price tag is set at $299.

At the release event the watch was described as something from a science fiction show.

However critics are not convinced, stating the failure of the past smart-watch releases proves there isn’t a use for them. The smart-watch released by Microsoft in 2004 was a huge failure according to analysts.

Researchers say that today’s generation look at watches as something “old people” wear, saying that the big square smart-watch may not catch on as Samsung is hoping it will.

Texas father not guilty of beating his daughters rapist to death

    1

    ocala news,texas
    Shack

What would you as a father do if you found someone raping your daughter?

One Texas Dad answered that question for the world after he was informed of a man doing just that, attempting to rape his little girl.

The father,23, whose name is not being released to protect the child’s identity, sent his daughter and son down to feed their chickens. The brother rushed back and informed his father that someone had grabbed his sister and taken her into a rundown shack.

The father frantically rushed down to the shack and, as he got closer he said he could hear his daughters screams. As the father entered the shack he said he was horrified to find a man with his daughter. The man, identified as Mora Flores,47, had already taken he and his little girls underwear off, said the 23-year-old father.

Seeing the horrific scene, the father flew into a massive rage and began beating Flores with his bare hands. The 23-year-old protective father subsequently beat Flores to death with his bare hands.

Despite how badly Flores was beaten, Sheriff Micah Harmon said that the Dad was very remorseful and didn’t even realize he had killed Flores, so I refused to press charges against the father he said.

“You have a right to defend your daughter”, Harmon said . “The girl’s father acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him.”

Under Texas state law, deadly force is authorized and, indeed justified to stop an aggravated sexual assault.

According to reports, the horrifying 911 calls clearly showed that the father tried to save the pedophiles life once he realized what had happened. Therefore, the Lavaca County grand jury decided not to press charges against the 23-year-old father.

Neighbors who know the 23-year-old father said, it is sad that a man lost his life, but they feel justice was served properly because the rapist deserved it.

We want to hear from you. Would you as the father,or mother for that matter, be willing to beat a person to death with your bare hands in order to protect your childs innocence?
