Judge Wants Teacher To Be Re-Sentenced For Raping A Student

    Judge Baugh

The Montana judge who came under fire for the shocking 30 day prison sentence he imposed on a former teacher accused of raping a 14-year-old student, which ultimately led to the girl taking her own life, has reconsidered his decision.

Tuesday District Judge G. Todd Baugh said that “it appears state law requires a two year mandatory minimum sentence be handed down to Stacey Dean Rambold” a new hearing has been set for Friday, September 6, 2013.

Just last week Judge Baugh sentenced Rambold to 15 years in prison, suspending all but 31 days plus one day time served totaling out to an unthinkable 30 days prison sentence for his crime. He has already begun serving those 30 days at the Deer Lodge State Prison.

In a statement released by Judge Baugh he wrote, “In the court’s opinion, imposing a sentence which suspends more than the mandatory minimum would be an illegal sentence.”

State prosecutors say they had been considering filing an appeal of the initial 30 day sentence regarding the two year mandatory minimum requirement.

Judge Baugh may not have the authority to go through with the new sentence of two years he is seeking to impose, according to Yellowstone County Attorney Scott Twito. He says that state law in Montana requires that an illegal sentence has to be settled through the appeal process.

“I’ve done this a long time and I’m in an area I have not been in before,” said Twito.

The prosecutor of 16 years is worried the defendant may have the advantage in Friday’s hearing due to the law requirements. Twito plans to be in the courtroom for the hearing but said he is not sure how it will turn out.

If the sentence goes unchanged, the state attorney’s office plans to proceed with an appeal in which the appellate division of the Montana Attorney General’s office will make the final decision.

The judge who has been on the bench since being elected in 1984 and is up for re-election in 2014, was called to resign by hundreds of protestors outside the Yellowstone County Court House last week.

The victim’s mother, Auliea Hanlon, says she is very angry at the judge for remarks he made about her 14-year-old daughter. Women’s rights activists as well as elected officials have expressed their anger over the comments that were made. Judge Baugh said, “The teen seems much older than her chronological age” adding, “she was in just as much control of the situation.”

Baugh responded to the criticism by saying his comments about the young girl were “irrelevant” and did not play a role in his decision to impose such a light sentence.

The judge did issue an apology, but the hundreds of people calling for his resignation say an apology is simply not enough.

Medical license suspended for Polliwog Dental owner, Michael Tarver

polliwog, ocala, michael tarver, marion county, ocala post

Ocala, Florida — Ocala Post first ran a story on Polliwog Dental on August 30, 2013, after the owner, Michael Tarver, lashed out directly toward Medicaid patients. Polliwog Dental was investigated by the DEA back in July for suspicion of overmedicating children. Specifically using Demerol to sedate and “control” children whom Mr. Tarver felt were misbehaved, according to his own words.

Ocala Post has been investigating since the story broke. We have been in touch with the DEA, DOH, AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics), and the ACHA(Agency for Healthcare Administration.)

Today, at Approximately 1:46 p.m., Michael Tarver’s (Polliwog Owner) license to practice dentistry was entered into an emergency suspension.

EMERGENCY SUSPENSION – the licensed practitioner Michael Tarver is suspended by emergency order of the department. Licensee may not practice in Florida while license is suspended under emergency order. The practitioner is obligated to update his/her profile data.

We contacted the American Academy of Pediatrics and asked them about small children being dosed with Demerol in conjunction with Novocain and Laughing gas.

The American Academy of Pediatrics advises dentists that they should find an alternative medicine when treating young children. Demerol should not be used as a sedation drug.

Demerol is a narcotic and it does have different effects on each individual person, especially children.

The AAP warns that Demerol should only be used for painful invasive procedures and not for the practice of sedating. AAP also warns that Demerol could have serious negative effects on children.

    These effects include:

    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Renal Impairment
    • Seizures
    • Respiratory Failure

According to the AAP research, Demerol has many of the side effect characteristics that you would not want to see in children.

In addition to the side effects, the correct dosing for Demerol in small children is not really known, often leading to a dose that is too high and sometimes causing the child to be sedated for up to 19 hours.

Although Demerol is 10 percent less the potency of Morphine, proper precautions must be taken when prescribing Demerol to small children; such as vital signs constantly being monitored, especially breathing and heart rate. Narcotics are known to suppress breathing and children are much less tolerant than adults.

Tarver is also accused of administering Versed. Versed is not a narcotic, but a sedating drug, a drug that is reported to have side effects more serious than that of Demerol. Experts say it should not be used in conjunction with other medications, such as a narcotic, as Tarver had reportedly been administering. Furthermore, Versed can cause serious breathing problems, and officials say it should only be administered in a hospital environment under constant cardiac and respiratory monitoring. Something many dentist offices are not equipped to do.

According to police reports, one child, four years of age, was given a dose of Versed and the child stopped breathing. Tarver did CPR to revive the child but failed to notify the parents. Tarver’s notes that were seized by the DEA described the incident as a “brief apnea episode.”

Tarver denies the allegations and originally denied being investigated by the DEA.

After Tarver tried to defend his practice by lashing out at parents on Ocala’s Word Of Mouth Facebook page, the allegations slowly surfaced, exposing the ill practices of Tarver’s Dentistry known as Polliwog Dental.

Ocala Post has included details of the emergency order. However, we should warn you, it may be disturbing to some.

    This is a developing story.

    Eugene Mullins [Mugshot]
Pinellas County — A 71-year-old man is in jail after Clearwater police say he sexually abused a disabled teenager.

It was at Sand Key Park where police arrested Robert Eugene Mullins,71, for the alleged sexual molestation of a 16-year-old boy who has cerebral palsy.

After the boy’s father walked away from the immediate area with his other child is when authorities say Mullins approached the teenager and began to rub tanning oil all over his body, including the boy’s genitals.

Mullins only stopped when he realized other beach goers were watching what he was doing to the boy.

The father then returned to the area and called police.

The family is from Germany and reports say the boy speaks very little English.

According to investigators, Mullins gave police an address which is located in Gettysburg, PA., but say he lived in Largo earlier this year.

Mullins was booked into the Pinellas County jail on one charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a disabled person.

He was arrested back in June of 2013 for DUI.

Mullins is currently in jail on a $10,000 bond.

    Xbox -VS- PS4

The day that gamers across the globe have been waiting for but many parents dread.

It is the launch of the new gaming systems, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Microsoft announced the much anticipated Xbox One, will be released on November 22, 2013 in the United States.

Gamers that love the Xbox wanted to know if the new Xbox One will support swappable generic hard drives. The answer is no. You will still have to pay the much scrutinized price tag to replace the hard drive in the Xbox One as you did before.

Don’t get to excited yet. While Microsoft has announced the release date, they also claim they will only be releasing a limited supply of the Limited Edition Xbox One Day One console. A strategy that will most certainly drive crowds to gaming stores in order to try and get their hands on one.

You better break open the piggy bank. The price tag for the Limited Edition Xbox One Day One is a whopping $500.00 and $617.00 for the bundle. A huge price tag many are willing to pay.

The PlayStation 4 will be released seven days earlier, on November 15, 2013.

The Sony PlayStation 4 is a huge disappointment to many gamers. Gamers main concern with the PS4 was that they be able to game from an external hard drive. A concern that proved to be a legitimate one. Shuhei Yoshida, one of Sony’s divisional presidents, confirmed that gamers will not be able to game from an external hard drive. Shuhei says, you can still swap out the internal hard drive in the PS4 just as you could the PS3.

Sony is a huge advocate in preventing piracy, the idea behind not allowing external hard drives for gaming purposes.

The price tag for the Sony PS4 Bundle is $519.00, give or take a few pennies.

Looks like Santa will have to work overtime this year. Even if the list is short, this order will surely break the bank for most.

Convicted Kidnapper Ariel Castro Takes The Easy Way Out

Ariel Castro, who was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and raping three women, as well as murder in early August.

Prison guards found Castro hanging in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, about 9:20 p.m., the state’s Department of Corrections said. Medical staff on duty state they tried to revive him, but failed.

Reports indicate that Castro was not mixed in with the general prison population. He was actually being kept in protective custody, therefore he had a cell all to himself. Guards were required to make rounds every 30 minutes

Family member, Maria Castro Montes, said she cried when she heard the news.

“I cried for several reasons. My first thoughts were if the girls knew. I am talking about the victims,” said Castro Montes, Castro’s cousin. “I immediately thought of them and what is going through their minds. Maybe this was for the best. I don’t think they were ever going to find peace with him alive.”

During the trial Castro shockingly shifted the blame toward the victims by playing the victim himself. He said he was “addicted to porn” and called himself a “very emotional person.”

He claimed that the three women lied about the way he treated them. He went on to say “the women were not virgins when he kidnapped them and that they wanted the sex.” “There was ‘harmony’ and ‘happiness’ in the home”, Castro Said.

In a letter that Castro wrote he claimed he was abused sexually as a child and he referred to himself as a “sexual predator.”

Police testified that the house had been reconfigured to hide the three women, and chains were kept in the rooms where Castro chained the women up. The locks were reversed on the doors and all windows boarded up. Castro Sexually assaulted the women, who were just girls at the time of the kidnapping repeatedly.

The first officer on the scene told the court, “When the women realized the police were there they literally jumped through the air and held on to an officer so tight that one of the victims was actually choking the officer, yelling out, “you saved us, you saved us, you saved us.”

Bodies Are Finally Being Exhumed From Graves Found On Dozier School Grounds

Dozier School For Boys - Ocala Post
    Dozier School For Boys

The University of South Florida began the excavation of what could be hundreds of un-marked graves at the site of a former Florida school for boys.

Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys is a former reform school located in the Florida panhandle town of Marianna which shut down in 2011 for alleged budgetary reasons.

The school had gained a heavy reputation over its 111-year history for horrific beatings, rape, torture, and even murder of young inmates by staff.

The digging which began Saturday is expected to come to an end Tuesday and be resumed at a later date according to USF anthropologist, Erin Kimmerle, who is leading the excavation.

The reasoning behind the excavation is to hopefully learn the identities of the buried boys and possibly the manner in which they died.

Kimmerle said, “In these historic cases, it’s really about having an accurate record and finding out what happened and knowing the truth about what happened.”

Robert Straley, a former inmate of the reform school says they used to segregate the whites from the blacks and the remains are buried where they housed the black inmates. He said he believes there may be a white cemetery that has yet to be discovered.

“I think there are at least 100 more bodies up there. At some point they are going to find more bodies, I’m dead certain of that. There has to be a white graveyard on the white side,” said Straley.

The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification will be analyzing DNA collected from the site.

Ten families have provided researchers with their DNA in hopes that a positive match can be made. In the event that matches are made, remains will then be returned to families.

Kimmerle said, “They want to bury them in family plots and next to the boys’ mothers and things like that. Anyone whose remains are unidentified will be re-entered here at Boot Hill.” The DNA will be recorded and the grave will be marked to any remains that are found but not identified.

Families are hopeful that soon a lot of questions will finally be answered.

Hackers take control of vehicles produced by GM

    0

ocala newsIt is often said that one day computers will be the ruin of civilization with so much of the world being run by computers.

From the TV’s you watch, to the cars you drive, hackers are always looking for new ways to wreak havoc on society. Like a scene from the movie “Live Free or Die Hard,” all it would take is one person to hack into the government’s computer servers and bring everyday life to a screeching halt.

Luckily, society has yet to reach that level of turmoil. However, researchers have found a new way for potential hackers to penetrate your computer and the outcome could be a deadly one.

Recent demonstrations by computer security experts showed how easy it was for them to gain access to a car’s computer system from their laptops and control a vehicle. They were able to control everything from the song on the radio, slamming on the brakes while the vehicle was traveling at highway speeds, shut down the engine, and even “jerking” the steering wheel.

There have not been any cases of actual attacks on vehicles by hackers, but experts say with today’s vehicles containing anywhere from 20 to 70 computers inside them, it would only be a matter of time before it becomes a reality.

Rich Mogull, CEO of the Phoenix-based security firm Securosis said, The more technology they add to the vehicle, the more opportunities there are for that to be abused for nefarious purposes. Anything with a computer chip in it is vulnerable, history keeps showing us.”

Researchers with the Center for Automotive Embedded Systems Security or CAESS, demonstrated how to take over a car’s system by plugging into the OBD-II port located under the dash also took control of an unnamed vehicle. They did this by hacking into its telematics system and demonstrated how if transmitted over a Wi-Fi connection it is possible to hack a car with malware embedded in an MP3. It is the independent operating computers in most late model vehicles that are connected through a CAN-bus or controller-area-network bus that make such attacks possible, they said.

Although the model of the vehicle compromised was not released, two different people who have knowledge of the research but did not want to be identified, say that the car was a GM and that the access was gained through the cars OnStar system.

A statement was released by GM saying they take security seriously and they are putting methods in place to reduce risk.

OnStar has also been said to have increased their security in the past few years following the demonstration.

Marion County Tuberculosis Health Alert Update

    Tuberculosis Health Alert Marion County

This in an update in regards to the tuberculosis outbreak in the Ocala-Marion County area.

We reached out to the Department of Health (DOH) and we have received further information.

Mr. Ackerman, the Public Information Officer for the Department of Health in Marion County said, “None of the 12 people who tested positive for TB are contagious. They are not showing any symptoms of TB, therefore they cannot pass the infection on to others. “

So far, only a few students and family and friends that are not connected with North Marion have tested positive. The students that have tested positive are in fact from the High School, not the middle school. They do not have symptoms therefore they cannot be contagious, said Mr. Ackerman. Adding, “Only a person who is sick with the TB disease can spread it to other people. A person with an infection but no symptoms cannot spread the germ. Even if a person is infected with the germ, the bacteria may remain dormant and not contagious to others. ”

He goes on to say, “None of the 12 people with positive TB tests have symptoms of TB disease, so they are not contagious. These types of cases are called “latent TB infections.” People with latent TB infection have TB germs in their bodies, but they are not sick because the germs are not active. These people do not have symptoms of TB disease and they cannot spread the germs to others. However, they may develop TB disease in the future if not treated preventatively.”

Our medical sources have indicated that TB is very contagious, however DOH has informed us that the disease is actually quite difficult to catch. TB is less contagious than measles, mumps, chicken pox, and influenza, says Department of Health Officials.

Mr. Ackerman also said, “Only persons who have had very close, day-to-day contact with a person who is sick with TB disease run the risk of contracting the disease. When we say ‘close prolonged contact’, there is a general rule that at least eight cumulative hours of close prolonged contact time must have occurred for someone to be considered in enough contact with a person with TB for spread of the bacteria to happen.”

He said, “And sunlight kills the TB germ, so any outside activities are excluded for exposure consideration. The TB germ does not survive on surfaces and must be breathed in to cause infection. Regular routine cleaning of the school is all that is needed. Marion County Public Schools performed a more thorough cleaning of the school during the summer when the TB case was first discovered.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 5-10 percent of the U.S. population will test positive if given a tuberculosis test. For that reason the Department Of Health is fully expecting to have positive test results. About nine percent of the tests have come back positive, so the Department Of Health is still within the CDC range of what would come back positive if tests were given to the general population.

Seven people who tested positive for TB are students. There have been five members of the student’s circle of family and friends not connected with the school who have tested positive, making a total of 12 people who have tested positive, said Department of Health Officials.

The DOH is following up on the 12 individuals who tested positive in order to evaluate them for treatment. The contact investigation included students and staff members from the school, as well as a small number of family and friends of the individual student.

The DOH identified 171 individuals who were in contact with the student.

The information shows there is no need for panic. DOH would not put the public nor the students at risk if there were signs of active contagious infections.

The Department of Health has provided documents that may be helpful to the general public and might answer any questions residents may have.

This story is still developing. Check back for updates.

Common Core Or Rotten To The Core

    ocala news
    Common Core Standards

Common Core, a term that many parents across the U.S. are all too familiar with in the education system. Most recently in Florida, where Common Core was initiated for the 2013 school year for second through 12th grades.

Parents are seeing an increase in Homework as well as an increase in the difficulty.

Carol S. of Polk County Said “How can parents be expected to sit down with their children and do six pages of homework front and back in a two income household.” Adding,” it is very difficult when you have to cook dinner and prepare for the next work and school day. This isn’t the 1930’s when the woman stayed home.”

The Common Core State Standard Initiative is a state-led effort that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt. The standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit bearing entry courses in two or four year college programs or enter the workforce. The standards are clear and concise to ensure that parents, teachers, and students have a clear understanding of the expectations in reading, writing, speaking and listening, language and mathematics in school.

Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.

Parents say the states that have not adopted the Common Core Standard Initiative are the states that have the sense not to.

Stacy Way, of Winter Haven contacted Ocala Post and said, “Common Core is a one size fits all package. After reading about CC standards, the best way to describe it is like making the FCAT last all year long.”

Parents say this new teaching standard stresses out students of all ages and many feel it will lead to an increase in the dropout rate among the higher grade levels.

Corestandards.org has documentation claiming parents were involved in the implementation of the CC, but many parents disagree, stating their opinion was never asked for in regards to the implementation of the new teaching standard. Something that many say is an outrage.

Parents say the new standard in teaching in a lot of ways does not even make sense.

One parent posted a picture on Facebook of her child’s math homework showing the chapter claimed to be algebra. However the lesson was not related to algebra in any way. One New York Attorney wrote, “This is why some parents’ organizations are putting up voting referenda to take-back the school districts and fire the Administration! This assignment is Arithmetic …. not Mathematics. It is basic compound multiplication …. What a FRAUD to entitle the assignment “Algebra” (Algebra requires solving for a missing variable. This assignment contains no variables. For example: If 2x = 10, then x= ?).”

Carol S. Said, “The math my son is bringing home is something I never imagined he would bring home. The math is far more advanced than his fifth grade level.” She went on to say, “To add insult to injury my son has a learning disability and the new teaching standard does not cater to those types of children.” She added, “children being taught with this new teaching standard are expected to be robots and in my opinion it is setting every child up for failure. Especially those with learning disabilities.”

“The new teaching standard removes the review of where students left off at the end of the school year to the beginning of the next school year. Students are expected to go all Summer and remember everything they did the last school year. The review at the beginning of the new school year has always been there, even when we were kids. It’s just the way it was. Students do not spend their Summers studying, they spend it being kids. The school system is trying to take away the childhood of children and it’s disgusting”, said Carol.

We have received many tips in regards to the new teaching standard from outraged parents. This new teaching standard is viewed by most households as a disaster waiting to happen, and according to the Common Core website, states are trying to push it on to private schools as well.

The organization ‘Truth In American Education’ has released an “OPT-OUT” form on their website and they are urging concerned parents to fill it out and send it to their children’s school. TIAM feels the only way parents will be heard is if they make a statement and bring it out in the open, instead of brushing it under the carpet.

We reached out to the Department of Education but have not yet received a response.

This is a developing story, subscribe by E-mail to receive updates.

We want to know what you think. Do you feel the new teaching standard is setting today’s generation up for failure? Leave your comments below.

Florida Has Hit All Time High In Poverty

    0

ocala newsDespite multiple reports from analysts claiming the economy in Florida is increasing, Florida International University economists disagree.

The new report released by Florida International University economists showed that Florida’s economy has been steadily declining since 2000. The report showed Florida’s median income is much lower and has fallen much faster than the median income of the rest of the country. Poverty is up nearly 50 percent in the state of Florida.

Although Florida’s unemployment rate has fallen from 11.4 percent to 7.1 percent the rate of pay has not changed and many companies has begun to cut back hours in preparation for “Obamacare.” Therefore keeping the poverty rate at an all time high.

Last week the Census released disturbing data that showed Florida has the second-highest rate of uninsured residents in the country that are under the age 65.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky appeared on The Daily Show and said, “According to the most recent Census, 15.7 percent of Americas do not have health insurance . So what you need to do is look at who are the 15 percent, and why don’t they have insurance? Of the 15 percent who didn’t have insurance, half of them made more than $50,000 a year. Why didn’t they buy insurance? Because of the expense and they were young healthy people.”

Senator Rand Paul is greatly opposed to Obama’s healthcare plan.

Venomous Lion Fish Taking Over Florida’s Coast Line

    0

Florida has a species of fish lurking in the water that could cause major damage to the marine life.

Officials say the Lion Fish was caught in Brevard County over Labor Day Weekend at Port Canaveral’s Jetty Park.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission say the fish are venomous and they need to be kept under control or they will kill off other native fish and marine life. FWC encourages fisherman to kill the fish and discard them.

Lion Fish [photo by Peter Griffin

Lion Fish can in fact be harmful to reefs and endanger other marine life because they are considered to be at the top of the food chain.

There are however some facts the public should be aware of when it comes to the Lion Fish. Researchers for National Geographic say the public has been misinformed on several key aspects in regards to the Lion Fish.

    Poisonous Versus Venomous

    * There is a difference between poisonous and venomous. Lion Fish are not poisonous but in fact venomous. Lion fish have venomous spines in their dorsal fins, pelvic, and anal areas that can inject venom through a puncture wound they inflict on their prey. Lion Fish are not poisonous for the fact that poison from a poisonous fish is delivered by ingesting it or secretion through the skin of its prey. Researchers For National Geographic say there is a clear difference between the two.

    Lion Fish Are Edible

    * Lion fish are in fact edible despite what the public has been lead to believe. The meat of a Lion Fish is white and extremely delicious. Unlike poisonous fish that cannot be ingested, Lion Fish are just the opposite. The spines must be cut off prior to eating thus completely removing the venom. It is the same theory behind eating rattle snake meat. Many restaurants through the U.S. have started listing Lion Fish on their menus to promote public awareness and at the same time satisfying its customers. Lion Fish have been deemed so tasty that they boast a price tag of $16 per pound, much higher than that of Red Snapper. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Center for Coastal Ocean Science there has not been any reported cases in the U.S. from anyone being sick after eating a Lion Fish that has been filleted and served up. If you have ever dined in a Caribbean restaurant and ordered seafood, chances are you may have eaten it and not even known.

    Limit On Lion Fish

    * The FWC does not have any set legal size or bag limits for Lion Fish, says FWC Officer Lenny Salberg.

How Can Lion Fish Be Caught

    * Lion Fish grow to be 15-16 inches long and usually hang out around reefs and is shallow water but can be found up to 1,000 feet deep. Because Lion Fish are considered to be invasive to Florida reefs and other marine life, Lion Fish can be caught by any means, says FWC Officer Lenny Salberg.

    * Hook

    * Spear

    * Net

    * Trap

    * Hands [Wearing proper protective gear]

In 2012 the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration launched a campaign in order to try and get the population of Lion Fish under control and at the same time educate the public.

The slogan for that campaign is “You have to Eat’Em to Beat’Em.”

    Tuberculosis Health Alert Marion County

Ocala – Marion County – After a Marion High School Student tested positive for tuberculosis back in August, Marion County is now investigating 12 more cases.

According to the Health Department, 12 more cases have been confirmed.

The Marion County Health Department said that family members, friends, classmates, and teachers from both North Marion High and North Marion Middle School have tested positive to TB.

Marion County school officials are saying they do not want a panic on their hands but at the same time it should be taken seriously.

The Health Department is maintaining that the students are not contagious.

Tuberculosis has always been know to be extremely contagious. We contacted two separate healthcare offices who do not wish not to be identified, we got the same statement on each occasion.

“Tuberculosis is extremely contagious so we are not sure why the health department is telling the public it is not. If it were not contagious how did the 12 other students contract it? No one wants a panic but it is something the health department officials should be taking very serious.”

According to Mayo Clinic documentation, tuberculosis is contagious. It is spread from person to person through the air by coughing, speaking, sneezing, spitting, laughing, or singing. The Mayo Clinic says that most individuals that have had proper treatment for at least two weeks may no longer be contagious. However anyone that has been in contact with an infected person prior to receiving treatment are urged to get tested.

We have reached out to the Marion County Health Department and we are awaiting their response.

This is a developing story so check back for updates.

Crisis In Syria Heats Up In U.S. After Graphic Images

Obama announced today that military action should be taken in the crisis against Syria.

“I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people’s representatives in Congress”, Obama said.

“The world watched in horror as men, women and children were massacred in Syria in the worst chemical attack of the 21st century,” Obama said.

This attack is an assault on human dignity,” Obama said, saying it “risks making a mockery” of the use of chemical weapons.

“Make no mistake — this has implications beyond chemical warfare,” Obama said.

Yesterday Senator John McCain appeared on the Jay Leno Show, he had a lot to say about the crisis in Syria and expressed his lack of faith in the U.N. as well as President Obama.

Senator John McCain says a million children have take refuge from the Assad regime. The Assad regime has killed more than 100,000 people with conventional weapons , most recently killing 1000’s of Syrians using chemical weapons, and more than 400 children. A number that is much higher than what was being reported by the Syrian Government.

When asked how he felt about military action, he said, “The option of doing nothing is even worse.”

Leno asked McCain if there was a fear of Russia getting involved and McCain’s response is nothing less than disturbing. McCain says that Russia is directly involved. Russia flies planes to Damascus and drops weapons on a daily basis, McCain said.

McCain says Obama basically wants to give President Assad a slap on the wrist . McCain said, “was the redline that Obama mentioned a year ago drawn in invisible ink?” McCain says if he were President he would destroy the runways as well as the airfields. He says it can easily be done without physically inserting soldiers into Syria.

McCain says the U.N. is a waste of tax payers money, insinuating that the U.N. is a joke. He adds that this situation is completely opposite of the Iraq war. Bush had troops go into Iraq claiming there were weapons of mass destruction , that later proved to be false. McCain says this is real and the chemical weapons are real. McCain says watching children die is not ok. Syrians are not jihadist, he says.

McCain says his way of attack would not harm Americans, it can be done without boots on the ground, and it could save hundreds of lives in Syria; also showing that the U.S. will not just stand by and watch the President of Syria commit genocide.

DUI – We See You Before You See Us Campaign

Ocala, Florida – If you drink and drive in Ocala, beware, the Ocala Police Department is joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign August 17 to September 3, 2012.

The Ocala Police Department announces the August/Labor Day DUI Crackdown. The Ocala Police Department Joins National Crackdown to reduce impaired driving fatalities

The strong nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend (6 p.m. Sept. 3- 5:59 a.m. Sept. 7).

Traffic Supervisor Sergeant Mike Sommer said our Officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers during the crackdown and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired.

It is illegal in all 50 States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 grams per deciliter. Despite these laws, in 2011 more than 10,000 people died in crashes in which a driver or motorcycle rider was impaired.

On average there is one alcohol impaired driving-related fatality every 51 minutes across America. But this tragic loss of life can be reduced if we get impaired drivers off our roadways,” said Sergeant Sommer. “Research has shown that high-visibility enforcement like the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent. By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Ocala roadways safer for everyone throughout the Labor Day period.”

During the Labor Day weekend in 2011, 147 people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving drivers or motorcycle riders with BACs of .08 or higher. Of those fatalities, 80 percent occurred from 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.

“Obviously we want to remind everyone that it is illegal to drive impaired, and we hope the campaign will remind people that if they plan on drinking, to never get behind the wheel,” said Sommer. “But if someone does choose to drive impaired, we will arrest them. No warnings. No excuses.”

“Driving impaired is simply not worth the risk. So don’t take the chance. Remember, we will be out in force and we will be watching, so ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” said Sommer.

Polliwog Dental Owner lashes out at Medicaid parents

    ocala news
Michael Tarver Lashes Out At Parents

Ocala, Florida — Back in July, the pediatric dentistry known as Polliwog Dental, was “audited” by the DEA. The DEA inspected the Ocala office for three hours.

The Owner, Michael Tarver, initially said agents were not at his place of business; however, later that day he said they were there for a “routine audit.”

Parents in Marion County have had plenty to say about the dentistry. Parents have expressed their concerns about not being allowed to go back with their children, billing errors, and staff disposition. While there are many dentistries that do not allow parents in the back while children are being treated, parents in Ocala do not like the idea.

Ocala’s Word of Mouth (OWOM) Facebook page, has more than six thousand members. It is a place for Ocala residents to express their concerns about unfair, as well as exceptional treatment by local businesses.

On Augusts 30, 2013, members of OWOM were having a discussion about an alleged protest against Polliwog.

Parents were telling their horror stories and asking questions about the protest.

What I find alarming is that with the numerous polliwog posts, not a single employee has EVER defended them”, one parent wrote.

Another wrote, I wouldn’t take my dog there after all I’ve read, but good luck to you.”

During the conversation, Michael Tarver “jumped” in and lashed out at parents.

Michael Tarver had this to say:

Leave polliwog alone, if you have a problem call me personally at 863-899-****, we are the only ones in the entire area seeing very poorly behaved kids and their sometimes poorly behaved parents with Medicaid insurance. It’s an amazingly hard job and there is a reason no one else is willing to do it. We help a lot of people that would not otherwise receive care, it is a totally thankless service. If you have a problem with your bill or treatment plan, call me.”

This has infuriated parents in Ocala, and parents are now speaking out against the Polliwog Dental owner, labeling Tarver as very unprofessional.

The power of word of mouth is undeniable, one parent calling his post, sickening.Adding,I am so glad my boys never went to such a place What a monster this guy sounds like.”

Tarver has since deleted his comments, but unfortunately, he must not have realized that moms know where the ‘Print Screen’ key is on their keyboard. A mother said, “I will not tolerate someone calling my kids ‘poorly behaved’ and looking down on those who are on Medicaid, solely because they are on Medicaid.”

Parents said it does not matter that he deleted his messages, the damage is done.

We want to hear from you. Let us know what you think or what experiences you have had. Leave your comments below.

This multi-agency checkpoint will be conducted in Marion County in the 700 block of South Magnolia Avenue, in the City of Ocala.

This is a continuing enforcement program to identify persons who are operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment, without a valid driver’s license, without a proper vehicle registration, proper insurance or while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

The objectives of these checkpoints are:

    4. Deter impaired driving and thereby reducing death, injury and property damage caused by alcohol and drug impaired drivers.

    5. Deter currently impaired drivers before a crash occurs.

    6. Conduct checkpoints with a minimum amount of intrusion and motorist inconvenience.

    7. Ensure the safety of the affected motorist and officers.

Every citizen using the highways is asked to “Report Impaired Drivers” to the nearest law enforcement agency, giving the following information:

    1. Where you saw the vehicle and which direction the vehicle was traveling.

    2. A description of the vehicle: its color, make and model.

    3. A description of the driver: sex, race, etc.

    4. The vehicle license number and state.

Cellular telephone users may dial “Star FHP (*347)” to reach the nearest Florida Highway Patrol Communications Office. This is a free call to the user and is a courtesy of the cellular companies in Florida. Cellular callers should continue to dial 911 for emergency medical or fire rescue assistance.

Roadside safety checkpoints are one part of our extensive enforcement plan, to enhance safe travel for the citizens and visitors of our State.

This information was obtained directly from the Florida Highway Patrol’s ‘Chief Public Safety Officer.’ In cooperation with the FHP, Ocala Post is honored to help spread the word and educate the public on the seriousness of drunk driving.

Marion County Schools Could Lose Its Sports Programs

    1

    ocala news marion county
When the Marion County school district meets with the teachers union to discuss this year’s budget, coaches and club directors could be asked to take as much as a 30 percent pay cut.

Supplemental contracts are paid to the coaches and others who lead the school districts extracurricular activities, and those payments range anywhere from $500 to $5000 per year.

Ed McPadden, Marion County Activities Director, said “Those students who are involved in extracurricular activities fare better than those who don’t, their grades are better, their attendance is better, and they tend to find more success.”

Since McPadden was a coach for 30 years before taking the job as Director at the district office, he said he understands the frustrations and concerns that these coaches have.

“They put in time above and beyond school, after school, holiday periods, and the money they are paid is relatively small in nature, so they look at a reduction as they are being slighted,” said McPadden.

The Marion County school districts deputy superintendant says they will have to negotiate the cuts with the union that represents school employees and it will be discussed before the September vote for a budget comes up.

The cuts are being explored due to the $29 million deficit in Marion County’s budget that they have been trying to make up for.

Parents we spoke with said they are worried that this proposal will do nothing but put children at a bigger risk for getting into trouble or childhood obesity by staying inside in front of a T.V. playing video games. Parents say, when kids are able to participate in sports and other activities it teaches them leadership skills, how to work with others, and also keeps them healthier. It is sad to see that our kids are the ones who keep suffering over of these types of issues, said one parent.

McPadden says because most of the coaches do it for the children and not the money, it is not certain how many coaches might quit if the pay cuts do in fact go into place.
