Derek Jeter, New York Yankees, Baseball
NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 09: Derek Jeter #2 of the New York Yankees walks back to first base after running out a sixth inning infield base hit against the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium on August 9, 2014 in the Bronx borough of New York City. The hit was Jeter’s 3,431st career hit moving him past Honus Wagner and into sixth on the all-time hit list. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

Derek Jeter passed Honus Wagner for 6th all time on baseball’s all-time hits list with a soft infield single in the 6th inning during Saturday’s game versus the Indians. Jeter’s 3,431st career hit came off Indians’ starter Corey Kluber with 0 outs and a 0-1 count.

Jeter announced his retirement at the beginning of the season. If Jeter sticks to his retirement plans, Wagner should be the last name Jeter passes as 5th all time is Tris Speaker with 3,514 hits.

The Yankee Stadium crowd gave Jeter a standing ovation after the hit. Jeter does not know what he will do with the ball yet; he just knows that he will put it somewhere safe.

The Yankees ended up losing the game to the Indians 3-0 as Jeter’s hit was the only highlight of the day for the Yankees’ offense.

Jeter continues to put up impressive numbers this year for a 40 year old, as he is batting .276 with 3 home runs and 30 RBIs in 103 games played.

    Robin Williams,
    A tribute to Robin Williams

Robin Williams was found unresponsive in his California home around noon on Monday, August 11, 2014, sheriff’s officials said.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said he appears to have committed suicide.

“Williams has been battling severe depression,” said publicist Mara Buxbaum. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family is asking for privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams’ wife, Susan Schneider, said in a statement — that she is absolutely devastated.

“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” she said. “I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

According to reports, Williams hung himself while his wife was asleep in a different room.

The news of the beloved comic’s death shocked the nation.

Williams’ last post to his daughter for her 25th Birthday.

In 1997, Williams was named “The Funniest Man Alive” by Entertainment Weekly.

Despite battling addiction early in his career, and spending time in 2006 at Hazelden — a part of the Betty Ford Foundation — in Oregon after being sober for 20 years, Williams was adored by millions; especially his family.

An older generation was introduced to Williams from the ’70s hit TV show “Mork and Mindy.

And who could forget the infamous line, “Good Morning Vietnam.”

Today’s generation will most likely remember Williams as the voice of “Aladdin” and his roles in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “The Bird Cage,” and many other outstanding roles; both comedic and dramatic.

Today – family, friends, and fans across the nation lost an extraordinarily talented actor and comedian.

Anonymous promises to take action against law enforcement agencies

Anonymous promises to take down any law enforcement agency in the United States that does not comply.

Ferguson, Missouri — Late Sunday in Ferguson, Missouri, 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer, causing a violent protest.

Over 20 police vehicles have been damaged, a gas station was looted, and additional police units were called for backup.

A witness, and friend of Brown, claimed that Brown had his hands in the air when the officer shot and killed him.

According to the officer, he tried to leave his patrol car when Brown pushed him back into the car and fought for his weapon.

Jon Belmar, St. Louis County Police Chief, said, “The genesis of this was a physical confrontation.”

The hacker group Anonymous, known as “hacktivists,” posted on their YouTube page showing their full support, and promised any attempts to harm — or retaliate protesters — would result in a cyber attack against Ferguson city and government offices.

This is the message they sent along with the video:

Anonymous Operation Ferguson – Press Release

    Sunday – August 10, 2014 1:30 PM CST USA

A little over 24 hours ago in Ferguson, Missouri – USA the Ferguson Police Department shot an un-armed teen 6 times and killed him. His body was left to lie in a pool of blood in the sweltering heat for hours while the police militarized the area against protesters and attempted to concoct a reasonable story as to why they snatched this innocent students life for no reason. The St. Louis County Sheriff Department even sealed the roads leading to Ferguson in a vain attempt to prevent protesters from reaching the city. His name was Mike Brown, he was 17 – and he would have started college next week. Instead, his family is struggling to come up with funeral costs.

The entire global collective of Anonymous is outraged at this cold blooded murder of a young teen. Not a week goes by that some young person, usually of minority ethnicity – is slaughtered by murderous police in the USA. For this reason Anonymous will not be satisfied this time, as we have in the past – with simply obtaining justice for this young man and his family. Anonymous demands that the Congressional Representatives and Senators from Missouri introduce legislation entitled “Mike Brown’s Law” that will set strict national standards for police conduct in the USA. We further demand that this new law include specific language to grant the victims of police violence the same rights and prerogatives that are already enjoyed nationwide by the victims of other violent criminals. The Equal Protection clause of the US Constitution demands nothing less.

To the good people of Ferguson, take heart – and take your streets. You are not alone, we will support you in every way possible. Occupy every square inch of your city. Open your homes and help in any way you can the protesters who will come to your city from every part of Missouri and the USA. Businesses and householders that are near protest rallies, open your WiFi routers so that live streamers and other independent journalists can use the Internet connections. Feed each other, keep each other safe – and stay in the streets until we are totally victorious in all our demands.

To the Ferguson Police Department and any other jurisdictions who are deployed to the protests: we are watching you very closely. If you abuse, harass – or harm in any way the protesters in Ferguson we will take every web based asset of your departments and governments off line. That is not a threat, it is a promise. If you attack the protesters, we will attack every server and computer you have. We will dox and release the personal information on every single member of the Ferguson Police Department, as well as any other jurisdiction that participates in the abuse. We will seize all your databases and E-Mail spools and dump them on the Internet. This is your only warning.

The time has come for more than simple justice for these atrocities. The time has come to draw a line in the sand and say “no more dead kids”, no more police killings and beatings. Anonymous is drawing a line in the sand, and that line runs right down the middle of Main Street Ferguson, Missouri. Police impunity ends with the barbaric death of Mike Brown.

We Are Anonymous – We Are Legion – We Will Not Forgive – We Will Not Forget

    EXPECT JUSTICE – DEMAND CHANGE

In April 2011, Anonymous hacked and brought down the PlayStation Network for one month, resulting in $170 million dollars lost and over 100 million accounts were compromised. In December of 2012, after the Newton shooting, the Westboro Baptist Church promised they would picket at the funerals of the deceased. Anonymous acted out by hacking the WBC’s website and released the names, phone numbers, e-mails, and home addresses of WBC church members.

Over the last four years, Anonymous has hacked multiple major businesses’ and government agencies’ websites and databases. In 2010, Anonymous hacked Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal. In 2011, they hacked the Orlando Chamber of Commerce, Universal, and a potential attack on Facebook. In 2012, they hacked the CIA, the Vatican, and Godaddy. In 2013, they hacked the Federal Reserve and had a planned attack on the NSA after a semi-failed attempt back in 2013.

A small branch of Anonymous created Lulz Security (commonly known as LulzSec), whose first attack was on Fox.com, leaked several passwords, LinkedIn profiles, and the names of 73,000 X Factor contestants.

Chief Belmar and city officials would not comment on promises made by Anonymous. However, Ocala Post did confirm that the city’s e-mail database was taken offline.

    [Updated August 12, 2014 at 5:58 p.m.]

Anonymous has just taken credit for taking FergusonCity.com offline. The group promises there is more to come.

    2014 New England Patriots preview

    0

    New England Patriots, football, nfl

The New England Patriots finished their 2013 season at 12-4 and just one game short of yet another Super Bowl appearance. The question always surrounding the Patriots is how many more years can Tom Brady contend for a Super Bowl title. Patriot fans have nothing to worry about though, as Brady continues to prove age is but a number, as he is still playing at an elite level.

The Patriots used their 29th overall selection on Dominique Easley, a defensive tackle out of Florida. Last season this team was plagued by injuries to their front seven as they lost key players Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork. These injuries cost the Patriots a lot of talent up front and explains why they ranked 30th in rushing yards allowed per game.

Aqib Talib was the stud of a Patriots secondary that ranked 18th in the NFL in 2013. The loss of Talib to free agency was a big blow but the Patriots wasted no time as they signed Pro Bowl cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis. Combine one of the best corners in Revis with the physicality that Browner brings and the Patriots now have a deadly secondary that no team wants to face.

Running back Stevan Ridley had an outstanding 2013 campaign as he help New England rank 9th in the league in rushing yards per game. Expect much of the same this year from Ridley.

Tom Brady had yet another outstanding year as quarterback on the Patriots. Even with an injured Rob Gronkowski and a subpar receiving core Brady still threw for 4343 yards and 25 touchdowns, which was good enough to rank 10th in the NFL. Hopefully this year will be a healthy one for Gronkowski and Danny Amendola as it would lead to an even more powerhouse passing game.

Expect nothing less from the Patriots this year as they should finish out the year with a record of 12-4.

    Ocala: Three shootings over weekend

    Shootings in Marion County, Ocala

Ocala, Florida — On August 8, 2014, a shooting occurred in the 900 block of Southwest Fort King Street and another at Sutton Place Apartments, located at 520 NE 23rd Circle, Ocala.

Several shots were fired in the Fort King area. Bullets hit a house and a parked vehicle.

In the Sutton Place Apartments incident, a black Mercedes was identified after witnesses told police that someone from the car fired one shot. The suspect(s) then drove into a dumpster as they were fleeing the scene.

The Mercedes was seized by police after they found it parked at Parkside Apartments.

On August 10, 2014, a store clerk with Martin Oil, located at 1517 SW 10th Street, Ocala, alerted police after she hit the panic alarm.

According to the Ocala Police Department, several black males began fighting in the parking lot of the gas station. That is when the clerk locked the door to the business and hit the panic alarm.

A witness told police that a white Honda was in the parking lot of the gas station and shortly after, a white Buick and grey Impala pulled into the parking lot. The witness told police that the occupants of the Buick and Impala jumped the occupant of the Honda.

The driver of the Honda was able to get back into his vehicle and drive off. As the Honda was leaving, a green SUV was approaching and the occupants of the Buick and Impala pointed at the Honda. That is when the green SUV began to chase the Honda and opened fire.

    No injuries have been reported.

Controversial sign removed after dozens of complaints

wife sale, domestic violence, North Dakota

A contractor supply store removed a sign after multiple complaints from women in the area.

Joe Rents & Contractors Supply store manager Curtis Renner said, “I meant the sign as a joke, but realized it wasn’t after my phone began ringing off the hook.”

The business is located in North Dakota.

One of the phone calls came from Christopher Johnson, executive director of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. He called the business and expressed his anger about the sign after receiving complaints from multiple women.

“It’s not a joke,” said Johnson. “It’s a pretty strong statement.”

Renner said he personally thinks it was just a humorous sign, but removed it anyway.

Many locals ridiculed Johnson, citing freedom of speech infringement.

The controversy over the sign was similar to that over a sign that was posted in front of a Daytona Beach, Florida motel in 2012, that read, “Having an affair? Stop here! Low rates and discreet.”

According to the Ocala Police Department, there were two drive-by shootings earlier this morning.

One incident occurred in the 900 block of Southwest Fort King Street and the other at Sutton Place Apartments, located at 520 NE 23rd Circle, Ocala.

    2014 Miami Dolphins preview

    1

    Miami Dolphins, Florida, NFL

The Miami Dolphins finished the 2013 season at an even 8-8. Outside of Mike Pouncey, the Dolphins struggle in the offensive line department which is why they used the 19th overall selection in the draft on Ja’Wuan James.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill put up some impressive stats but still finished the year with a quarterback rating of 45.8. Tannehill did pass for 3,913 yards and threw 24 touchdowns in his 2013 campaign, yet the Dolphins only ranked 20th in passing yards per game. The Dolphins drafted three targets for Tannehill to hopefully help the young quarterback in his third year in the league.

Passing was not the only area the Dolphins struggled in as they only averaged 90 rushing yards a game, which ranked 26th in the league. The difference this year is that running the ball should be no problem with newly acquired running back Knowshon Moreno.

The Dolphins ranked 24th in rushing yards allowed per game, but they will only improve in their run stopping game as Dion Jordan enters his second year in the league.

The Dolphins secondary was better than their front seven as they ranked 16th in passing yards per game. Dolphin’s fans have a lot to be excited about as Miami signed 2008 Pro Bowl cornerback Cortland Finnegan and opposite of Finnegan this year will be 2013 Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes. This should make for one of the league’s top cornerback duos this year.

If Tannehill and Mike Wallace can finally get some chemistry between the two of them then the Dolphins will truly be a threat on all cylinders of the ball this year.

Expect the Dolphins to finish out the year with a record of 9-7.

Ocala, Florida — Local North Marion alumni, Cortez Allen is teaming up with Green Pastures Worship Center to give back to his home roots of Ocala. The Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback is funding the fourth annual Back 2 School Bash Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Green Pastures Worship Center on Old Blitchton Road.

Allen is entering his fourth year in the league and is currently attending training camp which will cause him to be absent from the event.

With the help of Allen, Green Pastures were able to fill up about 200 backpacks with necessary school supplies. The event starts at 9 a.m. and will continue until all the backpacks are gone.

Allen said that this is something he has always wanted to do and that it is important for kids to start the year off right and have all of the supplies they need. Allen does not want anyone to only look at him as a professional athlete and that he wants the kids to know a good education is what started it all for him.

    New York Jets preview

    0

    new york jets

The New York Jets finished their 2013 campaign at par with a record of 8-8. The Jets used their 18th overall selection in the draft on free safety Calvin Pryor to hopefully help rejuvenate a secondary that ranked 22nd in passing yards allowed per game.

The Jets drafted three wide receivers in the draft and also signed wide receiver Eric Decker out of free agency in hopes that it will give second year quarterback Geno Smith just what he needs to improve on a subpar passing game from last year that ranked 31st in passing yards per game.

If the Jets can get a good passing game going this year, it will open up more holes in the trenches for an already threatening rushing attack that ranked 6th in yards per game.

Even though Smith is in no immediate danger of losing his job, the Jets used their 6th round draft pick on quarterback Tajh Boyd and also signed Michael Vick to possibly give Smith the friendly competition he needs to improve his game.

With an impressive front seven lead by Sheldon Richardson and David Harris, the Jets should have no problem in continuing to stop the rush, which they did quite well in 2013 as they ranked 3rd in rushing yards allowed per game.

Combine Calvin Pryor and Dee Milliner with that aggressive front seven and the Jets should have all the tools they need to create a pretty tough defense for any team to face.

If the Jets can get their offense in sync, this could be a year where the Jets are alongside other teams fighting for a playoff spot.

Expect the Jets to finish the year out with a 9-7 record.

2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant announced today that he will be withdrawing from Team USA and will not play in the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Durant cited that he withdrew because of “physical and mental fatigue” from the NBA season.

Durant won the 2010 FIBA MVP award as he led Team USA to its first title since 1994. Durant was also a participant for Team USA in 2012 London Olympics as he helped lead them to a second consecutive gold medal and their 14th gold in the 18 years that basketball has been an official Olympic sport.

Durant is not the only player to have withdrawn from Team USA. NBA all-stars Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard have all withdrawn from the team.

Durant’s withdraw comes less than a week after Paul George suffered a broken right leg in an exhibition match.

USA’s odds to win are still an impressive 2-5. The FIBA World Cup consists of 24 national teams and will be held August 30th through September 14th in Spain.

Daycare owner will not get jail time

    daycare, ocala, marion county
    Kim Blanchette [Mugshot]
Ocala, Florida — Kim Blanchette, the daycare operator who was arrested after 20-month-old Ellis Padgett fell and hit his head, causing his death, will not face jail time.

According to court records, on Wednesday, Blanchette pleaded no contest to running an unlicensed daycare facility (M).

Judge Thomas P. Thompson III ordered Blanchette to serve one year of probation and complete 100 hours of community service. She also had a civil restitution lien placed against her for an undisclosed amount money.

She was ordered to report to her probation officer immediately.

    –Original Article–

Former Ocala daycare operator, Kim Blanchette, 46, was arrested on a warrant and booked into the Marion County Jail on May 27, 2014.

It all started on March 22, 2013, when Marion County Sheriff’s Detective Erik Dice responded to 21 NE 50th Avenue, Ocala, in reference to a child that had been transported to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville with life threatening injuries.

When Detective Dice arrived on the scene, he learned that Blanchette was operating an unlicensed family daycare from her home.

Blanchette told Detective Dice that 20-month-old Ellis Padgett had fallen from a chair and hit his head on the floor.

Padgett later died from his injuries.

According to reports, Blanchette told authorities that she had operated the daycare for approximately 21 years. She stated that she failed to renew her license in 2010 due to health reasons. Blanchette told authorities that on the day of the accident she was caring for six children in her home.

During the investigation, Detective Dice learned that Blanchette could not renew her daycare license in 2010 because her husband, whom resided at the residence, had previous felony convictions.

On April 25, 2013, Department of Children and Families obtained a permanent injunction against Blanchette, prohibiting her from ever operating a family daycare.

A medical examiner determined that Blanchette was telling the truth about the 20-month-old’s fall, therefore the State Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges.

Blanchette was released on a $1,000 bond shortly after being booked on Tuesday.

She was charged with Public Order Crimes/Operating a Family Daycare without a License (M).

Blanchette relocated to Beverly Hills, Citrus County, Florida, shortly after Ellis Padgett’s death.

Mother beats daughter and posts it to Facebook

    facebook beating video, sleep challenge

Investigators are looking into a video after someone recorded a mother beating her daughter with a belt and posted it to Facebook.

In the video, the mother alleges she beat her child because she was participating in the “sleep challenge,” or “fainting game.” A “game” in which a person will bend over and take a few short, deep breaths really fast until the person hyperventilates. The person will then stand up, while another person pushes you against a wall, pressing on your sternum. This often will cause a person to pass out.

There have been three deaths related to the “game” since 2010.

The video has since been removed from Facebook.

However, investigators said World Star Hip Hop is glorifying the video.

Investigators said the video was directly supplied to World Star Hip Hop and they believe supplying it to the website was the mom’s sole intention behind making the video.

World Star Hip Hop is a website known for promoting and encouraging fights amongst the black community. Individuals are encouraged to incite and video fights, then send the video toWorld Star Hip Hop. Founder Lee “Q” O’Denat has been accused of exploiting the black community on numerous occasions. Many black leaders have spoken out against O’Denat, citing he is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Law Enforcement agencies across the United States are working diligently to have the website closed down. Law Enforcement officials say the website masquerades as promoting hip hop videos but is more about promoting violence and glorifying that violence. “Making it seem cool to fight,” said one investigator.

In recent years, several arrests have been made after “fight videos” appeared on World Star Hip Hop. According to authorities, if a person making this type of video is found to have been involved in any way, charges would be brought against that person as well as the individual(s) fighting.

If anyone has information about the woman in the video, you are asked to contact law enforcement.

We want to hear from you. Do you think it is discipline, or should the woman be arrested?

A day after the Pittsburgh Pirates announced that all-star outfielder Andrew McCutchen would be placed on the disabled list; the Pirates announced that McCutchen will be staying on the active roster.

McCutchen has been diagnosed with fractured rib cartilage and is expected to miss three weeks to a month.

During the eighth inning of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, McCutchen grabbed his side after hitting a sacrifice fly. McCutchen needed help leaving the field and walking down the dugout steps.

McCutchen was hit by a pitch on Saturday during a game against the Diamondbacks but that has not been cited as the cause for the injury.

Losing McCutchen would be a huge blow to the Pirates, as they continue their race into the playoffs. Since June 1, McCutchen is leading the NL in batting average, slugging percentage and RBIs.
