Investigators with the Ocala Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted felon.

Howard Lee Hill Jr., 24, who is a convicted felon, is wanted on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery, Burglary with a Deadly Weapon, False Imprisonment, and Child Abuse.

Police say that on May 14, they responded to Pavilion Oaks Apartments after Hill attacked his girlfriend.

The victim stated that she and Hill were in bed when he received a text message from his cousin about coming over to hang out, according to the police report.

Police stated that the victim told Hill that she did not want his cousin around her daughter because of “smoking weed in the parking lot of the complex all night.”

Hill then became angry, struck the victim in the face, and elbowed her on the throat, according to reports.

The victim then yelled for her daughter to leave the apartment.

As the girl ran for the back door, Hill grabbed her and threw her to the floor. He then grabbed the victim by the throat and shouted: “you can’t leave the apartment.”

Police said that is when the victim grabbed a kitchen knife and attempted to exit the apartment with her daughter, but Hill fought with her and gained possession of the knife.

Eventually, the victim and her daughter were able to escape and ran to a different apartment.

The occupant of that apartment tried to hide the victim and her daughter from Hill, but armed with a knife, he forced his way into the apartment. Once inside, Hill put the knife to the victim’s throat.

Two occupants of the apartment then wrestled the knife away from Hill.

Hill then nearly strangled to victim unconscious.

Police said that two occupants of the apartment were finally able to drag Hill outside. The occupants then placed a freezer in front of the door.

    Hill then fled the scene.

The Department of Children and Families was notified, according to police.

Hill is considered armed and dangerous.

Click It or Ticket campaign begins

Tallahassee, Florida – Beginning May 14, Drivers will see increased enforcement on buckling up. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) will join multiple law enforcement and highway safety partners in participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.  The campaign ends June 3.

“FHP is committed to raising awareness and educating the public. Not wearing a seatbelt is deadly,” said Colonel Gene S. Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “FHP will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to ensure everyone’s safety on Florida’s roadways.”

In 2017, more than 600 people that chose not to wear their seat belt were killed in a vehicle crash. FHP reminds everyone that Florida law requires the use of seat belts by drivers and passengers in the front seat and all children under the age of 18 in the front or back seat of a motor vehicle.

“Wearing a seatbelt is a quick and easy way to stay safer on the road. No matter how far you’re going, the Florida Police Chiefs Association encourages all Floridians to buckle up,” said Miami Shores Police Chief Kevin Lystad, President of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.

“Our Florida Sheriffs are committed to protecting and ensuring the safety of the citizens that we proudly serve.  The “Click it or Ticket” initiative is an outstanding way or reminding our citizens to protect those they love by insisting they wear seat belts. On behalf of our Florida Sheriffs, I proudly endorse this Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles initiative,” stated Sheriff Mike Adkinson, President of the Florida Sheriffs Association.

During your travels, no matter where it takes you, FHP wants motorists to follow these safety tips to help you and your family Arrive Alive:

    • Buckle up, every time. A seatbelt is your vehicle’s best safety feature. Set the example.
    • Make sure your rear-seat passengers are also buckled. They are more likely to injure themselves and other passengers in a crash, if not buckled up.
    • Seat belts plus airbags provide the greatest protection for adults. However, airbags are not a substitute for seatbelts.
    • Obey all speed limits. Traffic congestion and construction zones may require driving more slowly.
    • Drive sober. One drink is one too many.
    • Don’t drive distracted: Anything that takes your full attention off the road, even for a second, could be deadly.
    • Use caution when driving around bicycles or large commercial vehicles and always look twice for motorcycles. Safety on the road is a shared responsibility.

Medical marijuana; meeting coming to Belleview, Fruitland Park, & Lady Lake

Cannabis has been widely used as a medicinal agent in medicine with the earliest evidence in ancient Chinese practice dating back to 2700 BC. Over time, the use of medical cannabis has been increasingly adopted by Western medicine and is thus a rapidly emerging field that all physicians need to be aware of. Most are not. Several randomized controlled trials have shown a significant and dose-dependent relationship between neuropathic pain relief and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the principal psychoactive component of cannabis. Despite this, barriers exist to use from both the patient perspective (cost, addiction, social stigma, lack of understanding regarding safe administration) and the physician perspective (credibility, criminality, clinical evidence, patient addiction, and policy from the governing medical colleges).

Woodstock Medicinal Doctors will guide you to an improved overall health and well-being. Nature merges with Medical Science.

The vast majority of Florida marijuana certification doctors have completed an online, hour-long course, period. Now, that should strike you as being a little funny and a little dangerous. Why? Because Florida Medicinal Marijuana Patients may be treated by physicians deficient in understanding the science, relevance, and importance of this ancient medicinal. Would you want your sore throat, your child’s inner ear infection, chest pain, or the like treated by a physician whose expertise came from a one to two-hour online course? Certainly not!

The Physicians of Woodstock Medicinal Doctors have experienced Medicinal Physicians. They have treated thousands of patients in other states and have brought their craft to the Sunshine State. We hope to surpass those numbers, within the next few months, in Central Florida. Our practice is transparent, friendly, confidential, affordable and we strive for and guarantee your satisfaction with our care and treatment. Most importantly we are affordable – we beat all others’ price. We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and show you how we may improve many debilitating and painful conditions.

    Bomb threat prompts Wal-Mart evacuation

Ocala, Florida — At approximately 6 p.m. Sunday, an unknown person phoned in a bomb threat to the Wal-Mart, located at 9570 Southwest Highway 200.

With a packed store, a staff member made two announcements over the intercom advising customers to exit the store “due to an emergency situation.”

Shoppers stated that the announcements were muffled and very difficult to hear. Those who remained shopping were alerted by other customers.

One shopper, Angela D., alerted multiple elderly customers who had no idea the store was being evacuated.

Outside, one of the elderly patrons told Ocala Post that they “had no idea what was going on until a nice woman told her.”

Another told Ocala Post that the woman had offered to help her elderly husband, who requires the use of an electric scooter, out of the store.

Essentially, Wal-Mart was evacuated while Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams cleared the store prior to allowing the store to reopen hours later.

Employees were left to deal with dozens of grocery-filled carts.

No one was injured during the evacuation.

    The investigation is ongoing.

Dunnellon, Florida — A Dunnellon man was arrested Monday after Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime detectives determined the suspect had staged the murder of his girlfriend.

Detectives say David W. Romig, 52, staged the January 30 homicide to look like an intruder had entered the residence, located at 10499 SW 122nd Court, Dunnellon, and shot his girlfriend, Sally Kaufmann-Ruff, 64.

Romig “blew” his cover when he accidentally texted, “I think they are going to arrest me” to a MCSO detective. Romig thought he was texting his wife. Detectives also said that evidence collected at the scene did not match Romig’s story.

On the morning of the shooting, Kaufmann-Ruff was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Kaufmann-Ruff had been shot in the head at close range with a .22 caliber.

Initially, Romig told investigators he and Kaufmann-Ruff were sleeping when he awoke to an intruder leaning over him. Romig stated that he struggled with the intruder and stumbled into the hallway. He stated that he pushed the intruder, who was armed with a gun, and that’s when the gun went off.

Romig claimed that was when his girlfriend had been shot in the head.

On February 12, Romig told detectives that he had been suffering from “black-outs” and that he had been hearing voices. He said he had an “out-of-body” experience the morning of the shooting, and that he felt like he was wrestling with himself and the gun went off.

Romig confessed to staging the scene to make it look like a home invasion.

Romig was the sole beneficiary listed in Kaufmann-Ruff’s will. Romig would have inherited more than $200,000 in liquid assets, a house, car, and more.

Romig was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence by Staging a Crime Scene, and False Reporting of a Crime.

He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail without bond.
