More patient abuse allegations for Churchill Dentistry, LLC., formerly Polliwog Dental, LLC.,

Polliwog Children's Dentistry, Churchill dentistry, michael tarver, rebecca tarver,

Ocala, Florida — Michael Tarver, the former owner of Polliwog Dental LLC, now Churchill Dentistry LLC, is back in the spotlight following new allegations of patient abuse.

On April 28, 2014, Kembra Henderson took her 3-year-old daughter to Churchill Dentistry to see Dr. Michael Tarver, known to children as Dr. Mike.

After her daughter’s procedure, Henderson contacted the Ocala Police Department with some concerns.

Henderson told Officer Walker that when her daughter exited the procedure area, she noticed her daughter’s hair was “messy.” Henderson stated that she asked her daughter why her hair was messy, and the child replied, “Dr. Mike put his knees on my head.”

Henderson also stated that her daughter was told she was a “bad girl” after “throwing up” during a procedure.

When Officer Walker made contact with Tarver, he showed the officer the positioning in which procedures are done, and why his knees were next to the patient’s head. Tarver told the officer that the positioning of his knees keeps small children from moving their head while he inserts sharp objects into their mouth.

According to reports, Tarver told police although the girl was given a sedative, she was still able to move and was not following directions. Tarver said he told the patient she was a “bad girl” because she was not listening, not because she “threw up.”

A case number was created for this incident.

During the second week of October, Ocala Police Department was again contacted by a mother concerned about the treatment of her daughter by Tarver.

According to reports, Samantha Catozzi, stated her 6-year-old daughter told her “Dr. Mike” scared her. The girl told her mother that Tarver said if she wouldn’t be quiet, he would give her shots.

The 6-year-old then stated she began crying for her mother, causing Tarver to cover her mouth with his hand.

Catozzi also told police that she specifically told the dental office she did not want her daughter having any shots. Catozzi told police that even though she signed papers, they were not explained to her.

According to reports, after Catozzi filed the complaint, Tarver called her, wanting to know why she did it. He said he didn’t understand her reasoning.

Catozzi told police that Tarver’s tone made her fear for her family’s safety.

Ocala Post has been told many times that Tarver has threatened patients as well as employees. Many of the threats were sent via Facebook.

Police gave Catozzi a Florida Department of Health packet and instructed her to file a complaint.

Catozzi told police she would not be returning to Churchill Dentistry and would seek a restraining order against Tarver.

According to police, Tarver denies the accusations.

Today, Ocala Post spoke with Catozzi.

Catozzi said, “At this time, I can only say that I would not recommend anyone take their child to Churchill Dentistry.”

Ocala Post first broke the story about Polliwog Dental on August 30, 2014, when Tarver scolded parents and their children via social media for being Medicaid recipients.

Starting in 2012, Tarver had multiple complaints filed against him at the Ocala Police Department. Each time Tarver was investigated by detectives, he was cleared.

June 26, 2013, OPD received a complaint about a child that received a 1-1/2 inch laceration in the middle of his forehead. Tarver claimed the child tripped over his own feet, causing him to fall and hit his head. Tarver did not call EMS. When questioned by OPD, Tarver said, “I am Emergency Medicine Certified, therefore I did not feel the need to contact EMS.” OPD notified DCF upon this investigation due to OPD being called out multiple times in such a short period of time. The injury did require stitches.

In one incident, a parent said that Tarver placed his hand over the nose and mouth of her child until the child lost consciousness.

Tarver has repeatedly blamed the children, citing the children that come to his office are poorly behaved and cry when they are being treated. Witnesses have confirmed that Tarver also repeatedly yelled at children, telling them to “shut up and stop crying,” even hitting one child in the head after telling him to “shut up.”

According to police reports, a four-year-old child was given a dose of Versed, which caused the child to stop breathing. Tarver performed CPR to revive the child but failed to notify the parents. Tarver’s notes, which were seized by the DEA, described the incident as a “brief apnea episode.”

On June 28, 2013, OPD turned over information to Department of Health investigator Mike Knezevich after another complaint of a child receiving injuries while at Polliwog surfaced.

On September 4, 2013, Tarver’s license was suspended.

Earlier this year, Ocala Post contacted the State Attorney’s Office and asked:

Has the State Attorney’s Office read over the charges from the DOH or just the allegations filed with OPD?

State Attorney Bill Gladson replied, “This office was asked by detectives to review three separate incidents concerning potential child abuse. Some of these allegations had already been reported to the Department of Children and Families months prior to being referred to the Ocala Police Department.

“Each case was reviewed to determine whether, if true, the allegation would constitute the crime of child abuse. To prove the crime of child abuse beyond a reasonable doubt, the State would have to prove that a defendant knowingly or willfully, and intentionally, inflicted physical injury, or committed an act that could reasonably result in physical injury, to a child. At the time, physical injury was defined as ‘death, permanent or temporary disfigurement or impairment of any body part.’ During their investigation, the detectives with the Ocala Police Department conducted numerous interviews of staff members, reviewed surveillance video, photographs, medical records, physical evidence as well as interviewed the complainants in the cases.

Based on the evidence available, it was decided that no single allegation, if proven as alleged, would constitute the crime of child abuse such that any conviction could be sustained on appeal. This office did not review, and was not asked to review, any matter being investigated by the Department of Health or the Board of Dentistry.”

Ocala Post has received dozens of e-mails from parents about Dr. Michael Tarver and Churchill Dentistry.

Most of the parents asked the same question.

“Will it take a child dying before Dr. Mike’s license is permanently revoked?”

Many fathers of Tarver’s victims have expressed extreme hatred toward Tarver to Ocala Post.

In the newest allegations, parents stated that they either were new to the area or were simply unaware of Tarver’s history.

Tarver’s license was reinstated in November 2013.

Ocala, Florida — A grand jury has indicted 27-year-old Kendall Blyden for the first degree murder of one-year old, Jayden Green.

Blyden claimed he was innocent of all charges and that the blunt force trauma that Jayden sustained to his head was caused by a simple fall.

According to reports, the injuries were consistent with being slammed in the head with a blow from an elbow strike. It also appears that the baby was erratically shaken.

Blyden has been charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse. He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail on no bond. He will be re-arraigned on this new murder charge at first appearance tomorrow morning.

father kills rapist, india, ocala news

New Delhi, India — A father, 36, is facing murder charges after he admitted to inviting his teenage daughter’s alleged rapist to his home, fed him dinner, and then tortured him until he died.

Based on the father’s statement, police said the deceased, a medicine supplier, had allegedly raped the man’s 14-year-old daughter two months ago.

“The father invited his daughter’s alleged rapist over and prepared a nice dinner for him. Afterwards, the father subdued the rapist and tied him to a chair. The father then repeatedly burned the man’s penis with heated tongs and then strangled him to death,” police said.

In a statement, the father told police that two months ago, while he was away at work, the medicine supplier had stopped by his house. When he discovered the girl was home alone, he allegedly raped her. He threatened the girl, and told her he would kill her if she spoke about the incident to anyone.

Police said the girl, however, told her father about it the same day.

The father also told police that he did not report the rape because he feared that police, neighbors, and relatives would blame his daughter for the incident.

The father said rapes in his area occur frequently, and the men are rarely prosecuted.

Some women have turned to social media, calling the father a hero.

New Delhi police would not release names or photos in this case.

The 45-year-old rapist was married with children.

    Election day is here, 2014

    2014 election

Now, at last, America gets to decide.

Millions of people are casting votes nationwide in an election that could hand Republicans the Senate after a nasty, negative campaign that cost nearly $4 billion.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott is in a slug fest with Democrat Charlie Crist, who wants his old job back. Crist is the first person in Florida to be nominated for governor as both a Republican (when he was the state’s CEO from 2007 to 2011) and as a Democrat. Libertarian Gov. candidate, Adrian Wyllie, is still in the race. He refuses to give up, and believes if people were to open their eyes and see the corruption, he could win the race.

Approximately 41 minutes ago Wyllie released the following statement:

“To those of you who have heard that I have dropped out of the race, it is an outright lie. I am very much in this race, and we are fighting to win until every vote is counted. The Republican Party of Florida is responsible for fabricating and spreading that rumor, and it is just one of the many dirty tricks that both major parties have launched against this campaign. Their lies simply expose their fear that the two-party system has ended in Florida.”

Both Charlie Crist and Rick Scott refused to debate Wyllie during the Gubernatorial Debate.

Scott and Crist are both desperately trying to gather up last minute voters, they are feeling the pressure of just how close this race is.

Moments ago, Gov. Rick Scott said, “Today is the day that we decide Florida’s future. Go vote NOW!”

Charlie Crist said, “Polls close at 7:00 p.m. Don’t let the day end without knowing you did everything you could!”

Not much has been heard from Marion County commissioners.

Remember, your vote does count, and do as much research as you can before you vote.

    Good luck, and happy voting.

Child molester claims corrections officer set him up for a beating

Edward Rogalski child molester, police corruption, ocala news, inmate gets beat
    Edward Rogalski [Mugshot]
Ocala, Florida — A convicted child molester, being transported to prison, was attacked by other inmates on the transport van on November 3, 2014. Ocala Police Officers responded to the scene.

Edward Rogalski, 58, is a Florida Corrections inmate, and was being transported by U.S. Corrections employees to the Charlotte Correction Institute in a white van with 11 other inmates. Officers Peck and Jacques were guarding the inmates.

The officers had parked their van at the Burger King located at 3478 NW Blitchton Road, so the two officers could get a bite to eat.

Officer Jacques went inside to order, while Officer Peck watched over the inmates.

According to reports, the 11 other inmates believed that Rogalski was a child molester and began beating him inside the van.

Officer Peck stated that he quickly circled around to the side door and opened it in an attempt to stop the incident. Peck told police that by the time he opened the door, Rogalski had broken free from the inmates.

Officer Peck told police the other inmates had already calmed down and were no longer a threat to Rogalski, but Rogalski continued to try to escape from the van. According to reports, Officer Peck held on to Rogalski and gave him verbal commands to stop and stay where he was.

According to reports, Rogalski replied, “I don’t care who you are, I’m gonna do what I gotta do.” Rogalski then kicked Officer Peck in the chest, lunged forward, and grabbed the collapsible baton from Officer Peck’s vest carrier.

Officer Jacques saw the disturbance from inside Burger King and ran outside to assist, but did not see how the incident started.

Officer Peck then grabbed Rogalski’s hands and escorted him to the ground onto his back. He was held in that position until OPD officers arrived. Ocala Fire Rescue responded and treated Rogalski at the scene.

Rogalski thanked police for their quick response. He then told police that Corrections Officer Peck had set him up. Rogalski stated that Officer Peck told the inmates, “He is a child molester, have fun with him.”

According to reports, Rogalski told police that he was being beaten and tried to get away from the situation when Office Peck opened the van door. He said he was not trying to escape, but feared for his life.

All 11 of the inmates refused to provide any information to police.

Rogalski was charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction by Depriving an Officer of his Protection, and Escape.

Rogalski was sentenced to four years and three months in prison, followed by 10 years’ probation for molesting two 12-year-old girls.

Once convicted of the new crimes, his sentence will be increased.

Ocala Principal named National Principal of the Year

    0

    Jayne Ellspermann, ocala,
    Jayne Ellspermann

Ocala, Florida — Pearls gracefully lay upon a charcoal suit with a pop of color sneaking out above a perfectly buttoned jacket. The papers sprinkled across the desk reveal an agenda overflowing with tasks. The room is illuminated by light that bounces off a large crystal award, which stands next to two smaller ones. As the bell screams across the loud speaker and students begin to dash throughout the hallways, she returns to her office and continues the work she has been at since the rising sun.

After 22 years of being a principal, West Port High School Principal Jayne Ellspermann’s job is only beginning. On October 7, 2014, the National Association of Secondary School Principals named Ellspermann 2015 National Principal of the Year. Out of the principals of nearly 100,000 schools from across the country, she was number one.

“Isn’t it ridiculous? It is embarrassing to have that huge thing in my office; it will cycle out in a little while along with the state one, and the one I got for being a finalist,” Ellspermann said. “I have never wanted awards; I just love being a high school principal and getting kids ready to enter into the world.”

Ellspermann graduated from the University of Georgia in 1977, then moved to Florida with her new husband. She began working in Marion County 34 years ago as a high school social studies teacher.

“My father moved around, and I went to many different schools all over and just ended up in Florida 37 years ago because of my husband,” Ellspermann said. “I kind of picked him after asking, ‘You don’t want to move around a lot do you? I don’t want to keep changing my phone number.’”

When she moved to Ocala after receiving a degree in psychology, her first job was in law enforcement.

“I worked my way through college as a police officer at UG. When I graduated I had opportunities in law enforcement, which was back in the ‘70s when women were not in the field,” Ellspermann said. “I was able to get a deputy job and it was an exciting time, within six months I was asked to be the director of planning and research. After working there for three years I found I just really wanted to work with people.”

Ellspermann knew she wanted to change fields but never imagined becoming a teacher until she accepted a job teaching social studies.

“I never even dreamed of being a teacher. I just ended up getting a job as a social studies teacher and loved it because I got to teach all of the things I loved,” Ellspermann said. “I hadn’t been teaching long when I was asked to consider doing an administrative type role.”

Even though at first she was unsure if she would enjoy working on the administrative side of education, Ellspermann found that she enjoyed it because she was still in a school and still with kids.

“I was just really fortunate; I was given a lot of opportunities. I became an elementary assistant principal, then principal, then middle school principal, and then high school for the last 11 years,” Ellspermann said. “High school is my favorite, because I love having the last touch to make sure students are ready and have everything they need to leave.”

In these years, she received her master’s from the University of Florida and learned how to incorporate research into her job.

“I think that the preparation I got at UF was exactly what I needed to be successful. What I really appreciate about the education I received was that it was grounded in theory and research, so as education has evolved over the last ‘30-something years,’ I have continued to learn and be able to move forward,” Ellspermann said. “A really good education is when the learning never stops.”

It was this idea that allowed Ellspermann to not only grow as a principal, but also understand the effect that her job could have on the 2,600 students that attend West Port High School.

“It is really exciting to have an opportunity to be the last institution that makes a difference in a person’s life, and that’s what we do in high school,” Ellspermann said. “The two things I tell my students are ‘make it a great day or not, the choice is yours,’ and ‘graduation is not a destination, it is your threshold to your future.’ That is the most important part.”

Ellspermann embodies this idea and strives to be constantly improving as a leader and learning how to better help her students.

“We struggle a lot in education to show that it is not about natural ability but about hard work, any success you have is about you working hard and trying to grow, and I think Ms. Ellspermann is the epitome of that,” said Madeline Bottenhorn, a 10th-grade science teacher. “Even the day she won, the only thing I heard her say was ‘There are so many more things I want to improve.’”

This award has not only shed light on Ellspermann’s success as a principal, but also helped battle the stigma that Florida has a poor public school system.

“Florida’s education system is underrated because the citizens have too high of expectations,” Ellspermann said. “We are underrated because we don’t celebrate our success because we are always trying to be better.”

With extremely hard work and dedication during her 10 years at West Port, Ellspermann has been able to see higher FCAT scores, establish the school as an accredited college campus, and create a magnet program for the arts.

“I think this says something about the flexibility of your standing in education and something nice about the turn around that comes if you put in a lot of work,” Bottenhorn said. “It did take a long time to turn the school around but it is so cool that it could be done in one generation.”

Ellspermann’s success has not only affected the stereotype associated with Florida’s schools, but has shown current students how hard work does pay off.

“The educational leadership faculty is so very proud of Ms. Jayne Ellspermann being named National Principal of the Year,” Linda Eldridge, director of school of human development and organizational studies in education, said. “Our current graduate students sing her praises and aspire to become school leaders just like her. Her skills and success stories are an inspiration for us all.”

Ellspermann is not only a high school principal, but has also raised two daughters with her husband of 37 years, David Ellspermann, and has become a grandmother of five grandsons.

“Isn’t it funny how life takes so many turns?” Ellspermann said. “There were opportunities I could have taken to have gotten higher up, but then I would never be here. The most important thing is to be true to who you are.”

Tallahassee, Florida – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that in honor of Veterans Day, there will be free entry for everyone at state parks* on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The Florida Park Service encourages residents and visitors to celebrate veterans and active military personnel by bringing them to one of the 171 state parks and trails to enjoy outdoor activities.

Governor Scott said, “This Veterans Day, I encourage all Florida families to get out and enjoy Florida’s natural treasures at our wonderful state parks. We also honor our veterans and thank them for their service and sacrifice they gave to protect our state and nation.”

“Veterans Day is a perfect opportunity to visit Florida’s award-winning state parks,” said Donald Forgione, director of the Florida Park Service. “Spend the day hiking, biking or picnicking with a veteran – and most importantly, thank them for their service.”

Florida State Parks also preserve an abundance of historical and cultural sites that honor the nation’s fallen service members. In Apalachicola, visitors can pay respect to Vietnam veterans at Orman House Historic State Park’s Three Servicemen Statue, a bronze replica of the Vietnam memorial statue in Washington, D.C.

In October, Governor Scott announced that more than 27.1 million people visited Florida’s state parks and trails between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, generating nearly $2.1 billion in direct economic impact. In the year following the state parks system winning a third National Gold Medal in Excellence, record-breaking numbers of visitors were enjoying Florida’s natural treasures and outdoor areas.

Mother forced kids to drink toilet bowl cleaner after she heard voices

    Amelia West [Mugshot]
Port Orange, Florida — A Port Orange mother is facing attempted murder charges after she allegedly made her two children drink toilet bowl cleaner.

Amelia R. West, 29, was arrested Saturday morning, November 1, 2014, at her Timber Trail home.

“Upon arrival at the residence, officers located West, who had reportedly attempted to harm herself,” Captain John Jakovenko said. “Also inside the home were West’s two juvenile children, ages 2 years and 3 months. During the course of investigating the matter, it was determined that West had her children ingest toilet bowl cleaner prior to allegedly consuming some of the cleaner in an attempt to harm herself.”

The Florida Department of Children and Families are investigating. West’s children are currently staying with relatives.

West, who recently moved to Florida, told investigators she tried to harm herself in Tennessee, but since relocating to Florida, had become more depressed.

According to reports, West told police prior to giving her children the chemicals, she took them into a bedroom where she undressed them, as well as herself, and they all lay naked on the floor.

West stated to police that she and the children then went to the front yard — naked — before getting dressed and going to a neighbor’s home to ask if the neighbor knew Jesus.

West said she had been hearing voices and thought it would be better if she and her children went to heaven to be with God.

West has been charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse.

She is being held at the Volusia County Jail without bond.

Jakovenko said his incident is an active ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call POPD Detective David Fouts at 386-506-5813.

Ocala Police Officer arrested for sex with minor

officer Bennie L. Wilson, III arrested, ocala police, opd, ocala news,

Ocala, Florida — On today’s date, October 31, 2014, at 7:45 p.m., Sergeant Brian Young arrested Ocala Police Department, Officer Bennie L. Wilson, III, 41, for two counts of Unlawful Sexual Activity with Certain Minors, FSS 794.05.

On October 28, 2014, Sgt. Young was requested to investigate a criminal complaint against Officer Wilson. Sgt. Young spoke with the 16-year-old victim who advised that she had run away from home about a month and a half prior, and was engaging in prostitution.

She stated that she encountered Officer Wilson one night and spoke to him. She said the conversation became sexual in nature and the officer asked if he could touch her. She told him, yes and he fondled her breasts beneath her clothing. The officer then asked if he needed to wait until her 18th birthday.

The victim told investigators that approximately two weeks later (first two weeks of October) she encountered Officer Wilson again, at which time he asked if she would like to go somewhere alone with him. She stated yes, but she wanted to go somewhere and smoke her crack cocaine first. Approximately 40 minutes later, Officer Wilson picked the girl up in his patrol car. They then drove behind Party Time Rentals, where they got out of the vehicle. She stated that once they were out of the vehicle, he unzipped his pants and she performed oral sex on him. According to reports, she then removed her pants, put a condom on him, and had sex. Officer Wilson gave her $20 afterward.

Investigators found the used condom behind Party Time Rentals; it is being processed for DNA.

Yesterday, October 30, a psychopath escaped from the Warren County Smith’s Grove Sanitarium.

It is believed the psychopath is in Haddonfield, Illinois.

According to police, a convenient store was burglarized today and someone stole a rope, a couple of kitchen knives, and a white William Shatner mask.

Some reports are saying a teenager, named Laurie Strode, saw someone wearing this mask following her.

According to psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis, the psychopath is a Haddonfield native named Michael Myers, 21.

Fifteen years ago, Michael Myers stabbed his 15-year-old sister, Judith Myers, to death on Halloween night, when he was only 6-years-old.

It is believed that Myers has killed at least three people today.

According to reports, Myers stabbed Bob Simms to death, strangled Annie Bracket to death inside her car, and strangled Lynda van der Klok to death with a phone cord.

Myers may have also killed a German shepherd dog and a truck driver outside of Haddonfield.

Myers also attacked Strode inside her home.

Reports state Strode is at Haddonfield Hospital recovering from minor injuries.

According to Dr. Loomis and Strode, Dr. Loomis shot Myers six times, but his body has not been found. Officials said he couldn’t have gotten very far.

Police said if you see Myers do not be fooled by his slow walk because he seems to walk faster than most people run.

Myers may still be alive and on the run. He is also considered armed and dangerous.

Have a safe and happy Halloween from the staff of Ocala Post.

[Based off the movie Halloween, this is clearly meant as a Halloween prank and should be treated as such.]

To the Editor: The medical marijuana ruse

marijuana, ocala news, Polk County Sheriff, Grady Judd
    Polk County Sheriff, Grady Judd

Polk County — As Election Day draws near, “medical marijuana” has become a hot topic, and many have asked me about my position concerning constitutional Amendment 2.

That’s simple: I am personally against the amendment because I know it is a ruse that will create defacto-legalization of marijuana in Florida. The amendment supporters are counting on those of us who are compassionate and who want to help the very sick, to ignore the very real negative consequences of legalization.

Having said that, voting on the amendment is up to you—I’m not asking anyone to vote yes or no on the amendment. The truth is that I—and everyone else in law enforcement—will comply with whatever the voters in Florida say about the issue. What I do ask is that you get educated about the issue. Please don’t fall for the superficial argument that only the very sick will get marijuana. In fact, all you have to do is look to California and Colorado to see how broad access to marijuana resulted from legalized marijuana for “medicinal reasons”—only about 6% cite very serious illnesses such as cancer, ALS, and HIV/AIDS in order to legally smoke pot, while the other 94% claim to have “other conditions.”

Here are five loopholes intentionally written into Amendment 2:

    1. The amendment language states that “a person” can obtain “medical marijuana.” Well, who’s a person? You’re a person; I’m a person. Our children are also “a person.” Because there’s no prohibition against teenagers getting legal access to medical pot, we will see increases in kids and young adults smoking pot.
    2. There is a “caregiver” loophole: the amendment allows “caregivers to assist patients’ medical use of marijuana.” There is no qualification to be a caregiver other than you have to be 21-years-old and have no more than five “patients” at any given time. That’s it. There’s no medical license, education, or training required. Felons and drug dealers can be caregivers.
    3. Amendment 2 provides a list of debilitating illnesses where physicians can recommend “medical marijuana,” but it doesn’t stop there. The amendment goes on to say, or for “other conditions.” What are “other conditions?” Conditions like: “My back hurts,” “I can’t sleep at night,” or “I have some stress in my life.” With a loophole like this, there’s no limit to who will be eligible to smoke pot.
    4. Under Amendment 2, the grower, the caregiver, and the recommending physician will be civilly and criminally immune to liability. There is no protection for the consumer nor accountability for those who deal out bad pot.
    5. Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers can not only make smoked marijuana, but under Amendment 2 they will be able to develop “other related products” containing marijuana. Products like gummy “pot” bears, lollipops, ice cream, sodas, candy, cookies, and “pot”-tarts. Doesn’t this sound like they’re marketing to our children?

There is much more to learn about this amendment. Please take the time to go to http://www.dontletfloridagotopot.com/ to learn more.

Remember, how you vote is up to you. Please take the time to read the amendment, learn about the issues, educate your friends, and vote your conscience – Florida’s future depends on you.

    Dalton Edwards [Mugshot]
Ocala, Florida — Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 7696 S.E. 121st Place, Belleview after receiving a call that a 14-year old had been shot.

When Major Crimes Detectives arrived at the home, they spoke with Dalton Edwards, 17, who stated that he and Daniel M. Harshman, were just “playing around.”

Edwards told detectives Harshman was pointing a .20 gauge shotgun at him, at which time Edwards picked up a 9mm handgun, pointed it at the victim, and “accidentally” fired the gun.

Harshman was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Dalton Edwards was arrested and transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility.

He was charged with one count of Manslaughter and is being held without bond.

It is unclear how the teens obtained the weapons, and the parents might not have been home at the time of the incident.

A search warrant is being obtained which will allow investigators to determine who owns the guns, and why they were so accessible to the teens.

“No further details are available at this time,” said Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Public Information Officer, Valerie Strong.

    The investigation is ongoing.

The San Francisco Giants were able to claim their third World Series title in five years on Wednesday night, October 29, 2014. San Francisco won the series 4-3 and ended any hopes of the Royals getting their first World Series title in two decades.

Madison Bumgarner came in relief and pitched five scoreless innings on only two days rest. Bumgarner recorded the save and capped off an already historic World Series, with another stellar outing. Bumgarner finished the World Series with 2 wins, 16 IP and a 0.56 ERA earning him the World Series MVP. Bumgarner lower his career ERA in the World Series to a 0.25 allowing only 1 run in 36 career innings.

“What a warrior he is, and truly incredible what he did throughout the postseason,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Bumgarner. “I just told him I just can’t believe what he accomplished through all this. He’s such a humble guy, and we rode him pretty good.”

Once Bumgarner entered the game the Royals were able to only muster 2 hits. The last hit Bumgarner allowed was a single to center field that due to an error allowed Alex Gordon to go all the way to third with two outs in the 9th.

Salvador Perez ended the game by fouling out to the third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who immediately fell to the ground after in celebration after catching the foul ball.

    Vonkeith Barnes and evidence

Ocala, Florida — Marion County residents can rest a little easier knowing a violent drug-dealing criminal is off the streets and behind bars.

On October 29, 2014, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit received an anonymous tip on the location of a subject who was featured on one of their crime prevention kiosks Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies responded to 1821 SW 3rd Street in an attempt to serve three warrants on Vonkeith Barnes, 34.

When deputies arrived, Barnes was standing in the backyard of the residence. When they attempted to confront Barnes, he fled into the house, where he was apprehended.

Deputies found a bag of marijuana in plain view on the back porch of the home. The residence was secured and the Tactical Investigations Unit drafted a search warrant for the house.

Upon execution of the search warrant, they found 297 grams of marijuana, two grams of MDMA (also known as Molly), 26 grams of a white powdery substance, three unidentified pills, a fully loaded .40 caliber semi-auto handgun, a rifle, and a fully loaded .357 revolver.

The unidentified substances were sent to a lab for testing.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Federal gun charges may be brought against Barnes due to his lengthy criminal history and extremely violent past.

Barnes was arrested on the three warrants, but charges are still pending.

Barnes is a career criminal and was charged as felon before the age of 18. He has been arrested 27 times in Marion County with more than 50 charges against him.

This arrest brings the capture count for the kiosks to 32.

The arrest comes after the MCSO’s kiosk program received an award for Outstanding Crime Prevention Program of the Year last Thursday.

Mississippi State, Florida State top first College Playoff Rankings

mississippi state, fsu, florida state, ocala spoets, news 13

The first ever College Football Rankings were released Tuesday, this is the first of seven Top 25 rankings that will be decided by 12-member committee.

The College Football switched to a playoff system this year, where the top 4 teams will advance to the playoff bracket to see who will play in the national championship game. The No.1 team will play the No.4 team while No. 2 will play No. 3.

“It was extremely difficult, more difficult than any of us had expected having gone through our mock selections before,” Arkansas athletic director and committee chairman Jeff Long said. “There are 18 one-loss teams in FBS at this point in time, and the difference between many of them is very slim.”

“We don’t analyze it by conference,” Long said. “We look at those teams and evaluate the teams they played and the success they had, or the failures they had.”

Currently the four teams in are Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn, and Ole Miss, followed by the current two teams out Oregon and Alabama.

“It’s cool,” Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott said. “That’s something you can never take away from the university or this program. First-ever ranking, first team to be No. 1, so that’s pretty cool for the university.”

Four of the nation’s top five teams are currently occupied by SEC West teams with Mississippi State to play Alabama and Ole Miss later in their schedule. Alabama and Auburn also play each other at the end of the year in their annual Iron Bowl.

The final College Football Rankings will be released December, 7th.
