ocala, ocala news, ocala post, opOcala, Florida — Ocala Electric Utilities customers have recently been targeted with fraud calls. OPD has taken one report report ; where that customer was taken for $500. However OEU says they have received several calls from customers in regards to fraud.

The scam is: customers are told to pay $500 using a pre-paid debit card from CVS in order to avoid utilities being shut off. According to OEU, they would never use this type of method. OEU will only request the person responsible for paying the bills at a specific address to contact OEU’s office if there is a problem with an account.

OEU would like to get the word out about this scam to keep customers from being victimized.
