Dunnellon, Florida — What began as a missing person investigation in Marion County has evolved into a homicide case after investigators accused a Dunnellon man of killing his father and burying his body on the property where the two lived.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Andres Bahamon is accused of killing his father, Andres Bahamon-Prada, 43, whose disappearance was reported by family members after he had not been seen for several days.
Deputies launched the investigation after relatives became concerned about Bahamon-Prada’s whereabouts. As detectives examined the case, authorities said evidence began to indicate foul play rather than a voluntary disappearance.
Investigators later executed a search warrant at a residence on Northwest 225th Avenue in Dunnellon. During that search, detectives discovered what they described as freshly disturbed soil in the backyard. Authorities said a buried carpet containing human remains was ultimately recovered from the property. The remains were later identified as Bahamon-Prada.
Court records indicate detectives also found evidence inside the home, including suspected blood evidence, a damaged glass door and other items that became part of the homicide investigation. Authorities further alleged that Bahamon sent a photograph depicting his deceased father to a family member living overseas.
The investigation initially led to an evidence-tampering charge. However, detectives later announced that Bahamon had been charged with second-degree murder after investigators said he provided statements regarding the death of his father while in custody. Authorities allege Bahamon admitted to killing his father before burying the body in the backyard.
The sheriff’s office has not publicly released a final determination regarding the exact cause of death. Investigators continue to examine evidence collected from the residence and are seeking information regarding the victim’s missing silver Infiniti sedan, which authorities believe may contain evidence relevant to the case.
Neighbors expressed shock following news of the investigation, describing the case as one of the most disturbing criminal investigations to emerge from the Dunnellon area in recent years.
Bahamon remains in custody.
