According to FHP officials, Gary Steve Rowell was arrested on June 17 and charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of reckless driving involving property damage following an investigation into the fatal crash.

Officials say Rowell was driving a pickup truck when he left the roadway and struck Mossberg while he was operating a riding mower. Mossberg suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the collision.
The lengthy investigation led detectives to conclude that Rowell’s driving behavior warranted criminal charges. Officials subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest, and he was taken into custody on the vehicular homicide charge.
Vehicular homicide is a serious felony offense in Florida and can carry significant prison time if a defendant is convicted. Prosecutors will now review the evidence as the case moves through the Marion County court system.
Family members and neighbors have remembered Mossberg as a hardworking individual who was helping maintain local properties when the tragedy occurred. The fatal crash has renewed concerns about driver safety and the dangers faced by people working near roadways.
