Man seriously injured in 484 crash

On January 29, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Marion County Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2500 block of Southwest Highway 484.

Engine Company 24 with the Marion Oaks Fire Station was the first to arrive on the scene.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Timothy Petersen, 63, of Swartz Creek, Michigan, was driving a 2016 Itascz Sunstar RV as he came to a stop sign at CR 484.

Troopers said Peterson violated the right of way of John Garrett, 21, who was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora.

According to reports, the front end of the Aurora struck the left side of the RV and became lodged underneath it.

Garrett was seriously injured and transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Peterson told toppers that he saw the car but thought he had enough time to get through the intersection.

Peterson and his wife were not injured.

Peterson was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
